    Ask the Program Director Edition
    October 23rd 7-8PM on Howard 101

    TheFanShow.com

Guests: Gay Ramon, Eric from Hoboken, otto, & Rob Ryan

The show replays Friday at 2PM on H101 right after Bubba

Request to do the show SuperFanRoundtable@gmail.com

This week Tim the Bulldog Sabean will be sitting in on the show and fielding questions from the fans. You all have opinions about how things should be run & questions about the future at Sirius and this is your chance to talk the big guy yourself.

Remember, he's the program director so he can answer your question abotu the Howard 100 / 101 and the shows / talent on them. if you have a question about the merger or a problem with your radio, he's not really the right guy to ask.

I've asked the site what they'd like to talk to Tim about and it looks like the hot topics will be Fridays, Weekends, Mastertape Theatre, Bubba, & Riley but it's really whatever you want.

Remember, I'm not interviewing Tim. I'm the moderator between you & him. Don't count on me asking him your questions. You need to call in and ask him yourself.

    CALL AND ASK TIM
    1-888-STERN-101

Also, tune in next week for the 10-30-08 Wackpack Roundtable with Beetlejuice, High Pitch Eric, Ham Hands Bill, & Mark the Bagger!! NYC fans should come meet us at Rick's after the show. if you are coming, let me know here so I can put you on "the list".

Following are some of the things people said they will be calling in to try and ask. There's some good stuff in there but we won't hear Tim's response unless you pick up the phone and call 1-888-STERN-101. (888-783-7610)

Will we get to hear Tim the real person or just his Program Director Coma? "problems created by man...."

Is there seriously NO MONEY LEFT, or is that just something you say to Riley?

Can we get an up to date show schedule including all the rotating special shows? It's very hard to find shows you want to hear and the schedules on Sirius are always old.

Is there a way for fans to suggest ideas for specials?

How does Sirius judge which shows have more listeners / are more successful?

Are there any plans to merge any of the XM content into Howard 100 / 101?

Forbes says that out of the $100 million a year, Howard takes 70 and 30 goes toward the channels. Can you please explain how the budget for H100/H101 works? What is that money spent on? Seems like a whole lot of money to blow through. Do Artie, Robin, Fred etc salaries come out of that? Does yours? Does Bubba's? Why is there never any money for left for guests, promo's, trips to live locations, and contests out of that said budget?

Why didn't Sirius do anything special to announce the merger? To announce Howard on XM?

Why haven't there been any road trips? Would sirius like to do them? Are there rumors of any upcoming ones?

Why did you stop doing Mammary Lane? Those are the next best thing to a live show.

Do you know how many XM people have signed up for the Best of Sirius package?

Has there ever been anyone harder to deal with than Riley?

Who makes the final decision concerning programming........Tim or Howard?

What's up w/ the "channel updates" during Howards show? It's so annoying!

What exactly do you do? I understand that a program director on a tradition radio station controls which music gets played by the Howard channels seem pretty much set. Doesn't seem like there would be much to do.

Not including Howard, Bubba, or Ferrel, which show on the channels gets the best ratings?

Can you juggle things around and replay the Wrap Up show during the 12-6pm re-airing of the show. It's not on again until 11pm which is too late for people that work 9-5.

Are you looking beyond the end of Howard's contract? Artie & Robin said they re-sign if they could work in the afternoons but Howard seemed thought the fans wouldn't like it. Can you try to do the show LIVE in the afternoon for a week or even a month and see how everyone (Howard, staff, fans) likes it? Would Sirius be against an afternoon Stern Show?

Can you play that clip of Howard back in the KROCK days saying that he would never take Fridays off b/c that would be doing a disservice to his fans. (CLIP) I'd like to hear the 2008 Howard's response. How about the Letterman clips of him saying he'd only be taking off some Fridays?

How long is the History of Howard Stern II?

The Artie Roast has replayed several times but where is the Gary Roast? is there a gag order on it due to Sal's comments about Beth?

Why is the show counter-programmed to the typical workday so that you hear the same segments on the morning and afternoon travel times!? There has to be a way to deal with this.

Other than the History of Howard Stern II, what kinda specials are being worked on now or are already in the can? What will we get for Thanksgiving?

After the ISDN test show, has there been any talk of using this technology for real Stern programing?

Howard alluded to something big he did cause he believes in satellite so much. When will we find out what this is if ever?

When will the Howard Stern evening Beer Pong Tournament happen?

Are you working on the Howard roast the guys were talking about? They wanted to do it in the evening at a remote location. Do you have any spots in mind?

How is Artie doing? I understand that Sirius is behind Artie but if things go south again, what would it take for Artie to loose his job? Is there anything?

How are things going with Bubba's contract? Will you be able to come to terms?

Will we ever have Bubba spin off shows again?

Why does it seem like Bubba is he doing all of his outrageous stunts on terrestrial radio instead of Sirius? Does he have more freedom there? If so, why?

Can you explain how Sirius justifies spending millions on someone with minimal listeners like Jamie Fox but can not see the value of someone with a huge following like Bubba?

What happened to the Andy Dick Show?

How about setting up a rotating wackpack hour? John the Stutter does a great job and people like when Riley hits a 7PM slot. Why not let all the wackpackers rotate through 1 time slot where each week it's a different wackpack show? I vote for Yaki to take the first slot.

Howards parents were excellent as always and we need another addition of Meet the Sterns. Can you make that happen?

Howard often offers big name celebs a slot to do a show. Why don't we ever hear one? It's happened time and time again. he offers, they say that would be great, and then nothing.

Is Sirius happy with the dual show version of Bubba? Is there talk of getting Bubba exclusive again?

Why does Riley Martin continue to have a show? Don't we have enough clips of him by now?

I understand why you might not have sponsors for Riley's midnight show but if the guy needs more money, why not find a Stern Show "Riley Clip of the Week" sponsor. Howard seems to throw $500 at random callers all the time.

Why did you stop playing new episodes of Mastertape Theatre? Even one since june has been a repeat.

When will there be a new one?

Why did Howard pull everyone off MTT to work on History of Howard Stern? it seems excessive to think the 26 episodes of mastertape theater needed to be scrapped in order to put together 1 holiday special. Is the tapes team understaffed? Will Mastertape be put on hold again next June?

How do you choose what to air out of "The Tapes"? Is there a plan of some kind?

Will they ever replay the old show when Tim was a programmer at another station and got into a fight with Howard and staff? How about replaying the old shows where Bubba would go off on Howard?

Why did Mastertape Theatre get moved to Sundays? I admit I didn't like hearing it repeated all day long but I do miss listening to it on Fridays.

What's up with MTT? 1 mastertape is just too short. My suggestion is 3 separate Mastertape shows played back to back every Sunday. Sunday should be "Classic Stern Show" day.

Is there any chance that we can get a LIVE Stern show on Fridays. ( Bubba and Jay Thomas DO NOT COUNT ) We need members of the real Howard Stern Show. Why can't they treat Fridays like a combo of the Wrap Up Show and Best of the Week. Let Jon Hein, Sal, Richard, JD, Will, Jason, etc discuss what happened during the week and then play special clips from the week. It could also include them discussing and playing H100 news clips of that week since they are often about what is going on behind the scenes.

I know Howard said he's work some Friday and technically he did but i thought he meant he'd always work some Fridays & not just during the first couple of months. Were you just as surprised as the fans when Howard stopped working Fridays or was that always the plan?

How about moving Miserable Men to Friday mornings or a longer Super Fan Roundtable? How a happy meal?

Howard mentioned that "something is happening next year" for Fridays. Is this true?

Why is the Friday Best of the Week 5-6 long clips instead of shorter mammary lane styled clips?

Whenever the topic of the Friday Show comes up Howard, Gary, & Tim give the programmed response that when we had a Friday Show people didn't like it. Why is nobody willing to accept that people weren't against the Friday Show but were just against Howard Taking off Fridays. Is there some other reason why the Friday Show isn't back becasue everyone I talk too misses it.

We must have some LIVE show on Friday, w/out gary would be a plus. Benji as host sounds good. Sal, Richard, JD, and Benji would be ideal. Instead of re-running the Friday show all day, rotate it with MTT. Are there any plans to try something like this or is Sirius content with the current Friday solution?

Why do you still do Friday Best of the Week on vacations instead of doing a 5th day of specials? It's bad enough that we only get 4 days of live Howard and it's driving me insane now that I only get 4 days of vacation specials too. Seems like lazy programming / you don't care about the listeners.

Why isn't there more live programming on the weekends? If it's a budget issue and Howard 100 / 101 is the biggest thing on all of satellite, why can't something be done? Seems odd to throw away 2 days on the biggest channels.

    SHOW NOTES

Go straight to the super fan roundtable forum - www.TheFanShow.com

You can email the show at SuperFanRoundtable@gmail.com

CALLING INTO THE SHOW: When calling into the show, there's no need to give shout outs to SFN or your friends on SFN. We don't have a ton of time so please don't waste any of it. We already have topics setup. Please be a good caller and respond to the topics. Thanks 1-888-STERN-101

GETTING ON THE SHOW: Each week I start a roundtable brainstorming thread where the fans help build our topics and a listening thread where people discuss the show while it's happening. if you'd like to do the show, get in there and participate. Once you've been around for awhile and see how the show works, ask to be on and pick a open date. The schedule can be found here. We have 4 people on each show and I try to make at least one of them a brand new person who's never been on. You can make your requests here in the Super Fan Roundtable forum or you can email them here.

GUESTS OF THE SHOW: The show airs from the Sirius studios in NYC Times Square. It's on the 36th floor of the McGraw Hill building on the corner of 49th & 6th in studio 21. (Google MAP) Guests should be there at 6PM so we can do mic checks. The show goes live at 7PM. You can not bring any friends. Our studio is very small and there's really no place for them. I'll need your full name in advance and you need to bring your ID for security. If I don't put you on the list and you don't have your ID, you will not be able to get in.

Go to the big security desk in the lobby. You should be there by 6PM. They will xray your bag, check your ID, take your photo, and give you a pass. Tell them you are going to Sirius. They will point you to the right elevators. Show that guy the pass. Upstairs there's another guy you have to show the pass to. he'll want you to sign in. You are going to studio 21 and the person you are here to see is our producer Jason Kaplan. Sit at the couches in the Sirius lobby. Someone finds you and brings you back to our room. You are not allowed to wander around.

This is an office and you are expected to be on your best behavior. It's not some free for all party. You shouldn't do anything that you would do when stopping by the bank. You cannot bring alcohol, take off your clothes, make noise, or bother people. I know you are a Stern fan but we're not out at the bar. You need to be cool. Don't stop celebs and ask for an autograph or photo. Every time one of you misbehaves, I get in trouble and a new rule to follow.

DO NOT SIGN THE WALL. I know it looks like it would be cool but it's not. Those are all celebs who were asked to sign it so unless a Sirius executive walks you up to it and hands you a sharpie, be good.

YOU CAN NOT WALK AROUND SIRIUS. You will be escorted from the upstairs lobby to the studio and back out. Do not take it upon yourself to just walk around & check things out. Nobody is allowed to stop by other shows. DO NOT STOP BY FERRALL'S STUDIO under any circumstances even if you think it's OK. I've been told by management that it's not OK. If you'd like to be a guest on Ferrall, they need to put you on their guest list.

You may take photos in the studio when were are off air but please do not take pictures in the halls or lobby.

You are a guest of the show. That means you are answering questions & joining in on a discussion. You are not the host asking questions or interviewing the guests & callers. You are not doing standup and thought it's great when you are funny, it's bad when you try to force punchlines into the discussion. Everyone will get a chance to talk so you don't battle the other guests or callers for airtime. When everyone is talking over one another, it just sounds bad.

All plugs must be approved in advance. If you are going to be on the show and you have something to plug, you need to let me know the day before. ANYONE WHO PLUGS A WEBSITE OR BUSINESS WITHOUT PERMISSION WILL NOT BE INVITED BACK.

I had him on once before and he did a good job. I know you don't like his calls but anyone who calls Howard that often is obviously a Stern super fan.

All great questions on the first post there, Mutt. I am really curious to what he says about the Friday show.
  8. x76 Full Member

Timbo, do you agree that the acquisition and implementation of "The Tapes" have been the single worst thing to have ever befallen the Howard Stern Show? Do you really throw a dart at a list of tapes to choose which ones will air?
  9. The Butler Full Member

Be stiff with him Mutt. Don't let him off the hook with any "it is was it is" answers.

Have a good show ev'rybody. :hw:
  10. SternFanTwo Full Member

Are you going to talk about the Bubba meltdown on the site as well?
  11. scotsalemfan Full Member

You have to follow up on his answers. There's no reason why they are not playing thousands of hours of "The Tapes", but they have no problem on vacations, playing reruns of the reruns Friday-Sunday.
Tim is difficult to understand. We all heard that on the air check before the 1st Sirius show.
You have press him for a direct answer, or he babbles.
  12. LIFAN12 Full Member

Please ask Tim what kind of market research (if any) does Sirius do to determine what listeners really want to hear on Fridays and what the true value of the other shows (like Bubba) are to Sirius, XM crossovers and advertisers.

Why not poll listeners and use focus groups to make the most listeners happy, and stop making knee jerk decisions based on few e-mail complaints.

Will Tim ever write a book of cliches ?
  14. LIFAN12 Full Member

Why play Best of the Week on Fridays, when each Show is repeated all day long and on weekends?

This makes no sense, and only penalizes true fans who may have already heard all or most of the Show twice before Friday's Best of the Week repeats.

I like Jay Thomas, but we should have a choice of MTT or a Friday Wrap-Up Show, or both, with some different programming.
