Since 1990, I have NEVER shown ID. I walk up to the nice old lady with the huge book on the table, I tell her my name....she opens it...she spots my name...I sign on the line...I walk into the booth and I vote. I have NEVER SHOWN ID. I see my signature from my previous vote. I smile and catch the subway to work.

As I've always said - this is a solution in search of a problem. There is not an issue with voter fraud, so why further complicate the voting process?

As the first article I posted states, over 750,000 registered voters in PA do not have photo ID. For whatever reason, many of those 750,000 have not and/or will not be able to obtain photo ID in time for the November election. Many will not even KNOW that they require photo ID to vote, and will first find out as they show up to the polls in November.

Why are wasting our country's time and resources creating solutions to non-existent problems? This is increased government regulation where it is not necessary.

Because poor, elderly minorities and younger voters are most likely to not have valid ID. These people vote almost exclusively Democratic. It would be like if Democrats found a way to keep millionaires and billionaires from voting for some fake reason.

No you don't. Stop bullshitting. Everything you say after sounds like bullshit...you know what...nevermind...that would be like the car with high beams telling the dear to stop staring.

If you live in NY, like your profile says you do, then no, you don't have to present photo ID.

If you need photo ID, they require proof of identity. And you don't have a copy of your birth certificate, it will cost you $20-$30 to get a copy of it in most counties. If I'm poor and struggling to keep my home and food on the table, that $20 is very hard to come by.

This is nothing more than a modern poll tax to keep the poor from voting.

I'm sure those free IDs will really prevent the poor from getting them.

That's quite a bold (or stupid) statement.
Off the top of my head, guessing, the population of PA is ~ 13M?, give or take a few, and they all rose up and exclaimed with one voice "Pennsylvania Admits There’s No In-Person Voter Fraud"!
Either that or the muckrakers talkingpoints blog speaks for the entire population of the Keystone state. Here's to you muckrakers talking blog, the most interesting internet stub in the universe, beguiling moderately tech-savvy uninformed rubes since 2007.
JesusH, and to think some here take a gigantic shit on anything the rightwing tools source from FoxNews, correct as that huge shat may be.

There is nothing wrong with requiring a photo ID at all. However, if you start purging lists and start implementing new security measures a year or so before the elections, its a sign that you are probably trying to fuck with the system to rig it, not to make it fair. There are tons of things that can go wrong when you implement changes in an important process like voting, and innocent people always fall thru the cracks and suffer because of human error, and it all takes time to put it together. You should do this a few months after the elections end, or maybe a year later, so you have 2 or 3 years to fix everything and make sure that whoever got wrongly affected by the changes has time to correct his or her situation. If you do it as the election comes close, even a year before, you're just fucking with the system, a subterfuge to commit fraud. Anyone with common sense can see this from a mile away.

Many states require photo ID to get welfare and other benefits.... what do the 'poor, elderly minorities and younger people' do then ??
  20. NCMike06 Full Member

There are elections every 2 years...you do realize that, right ? By your definition, there could never be a good time to clean up the lists.
