    1. If the roster blows, blow up the part that blows not the only part with consistent production.

    2. Their job is to put asses in the seats. People go to see professional sports to witness exceptional talent. It's by putting asses in those seats that the organization is able to pay for that talent. This is just simple logic from a baseball and financial standpoint. They will loose more in attendance by not "overpaying" him than by cutting the payroll.

    3. There is no ground from which to build up from, so that leaves big trades and deals the only viable option. Now, you don't have to take every 100 mil deal that comes your way, but if you choose appropriately you can field a competive team while nurturing your young talent before you force them into action too early because you have no other option. Reyes was homegrown and came from the "ground up". They got what they wanted. One of the very best in the game. Now that he's living up to what they hoped, they don't want him.

    4. No, I cannot be a fan of this. This team is not making a baseball move. I am a baseball fan, and the one thing I demand is that my team be commited to baseball. The New York Mets are clearly not commited to baseball. I defy you to prove otherwise.

brilliant post. the ownership sucks. the management sucks. and they've spent more money than any nl team by a lot. and they still lose. so start over. take the two compensatory draft picks and save the money. rebuild and if u lose a couple shit fans, so be it.

The only part of the roster with consistent production played out of his mind in a contract year, is injury prone, and is overrated defensively. You dont give him 100 million dollars because he puts fans in seats.

Obviously Sandy Alderson doesnt think the Mets will not lose more by letting Reyes walk than by resigning him to a bad deal, and i would be pretty safe in betting he would know a lot better than you would.

You're right, there is no ground to build up from, which our new GM Sandy Alderson sees as a problem. He is starting to rebuild the farm system. Just because it isnt the quickest way to win, doesnt mean it's not just as successful. And if you are going to do it that way, it doesnt mean you dont sign big free agent contracts. But sometimes its about making big signing at the right time. You wait a year or two while you re-tool, and when the team is turning the corner again, that is when you go after the big free agents. Not when you are going to suck regardless.. That is the kind of retarded thinking that got us into this mess in the first place.

If you cant see the Mets havent been able to win a world series since 86, and have been trying to win with this current strategy for over a decade and maybe it's time to at least try it a different way, then i dont know what to tell you. Is it an instant fix? No, but the instant fix didnt work either. You saying things like you are a baseball fan, and you demand they do make "baseball moves". I think you look at the Yankees, and think the Mets should just do that. But the Mets arent the Yankees, they dont have nearly the revenue that the Yanks do. The Yankees can spend so much more they can afford to swallow their terrible deals, and they have just as many as the Mets have had over the years....The Mets have to start being smarter.

I would rather win a world series 6 years from now, and be shitty for the next 3 working our way to that point, than be .500 for the next decade.

And it's pretty obvious to see if the Mets did start winning again, you'd be the first asshole hopping back on the bandwagon talking about what a loyal fan you are....

first off sorry boff, you're right, your ownership sucks. big time. but losing reyes isn't a big deal. they sucked with him, they'll suck without him. the bigger issue is they didn't move him when they had a chance last year. but at least they'll get two picks and save the money which should be invested wisely (but you never know with the mets).

you call reyes playing an average of 98 games/year (the previous three season) "consistent". and paying him nearly $18/yr mill for that?

really? you think that's their job? fuck that. id rather my team win long term. and they weren't winning with or without reyes over the next few years. save the money, take the picks. and maybe u didn't notice but attendance sucked last year WITH reyes. and thats after they dramatically decreased ticket prices.

u don't have to take "every 100 mill deal that comes your way"? tell me, why should you take ANY deal like that right now? tell me one big free agent signing since john olerud that has really been a great deal. martinez? castillo? wagner? bay? rodriguez? beltran is probably the best one, but that's break even at best considering his injuries. so why not go another way and use money to run the organization correctly?

when they were "trying" the past 20 years, how did that work out?

money isn't the issue with the mets. retaining reyes doesn't matter one way or the other. they're a shit organization that needs a sale or a total overhaul. best case scenario is they suck for two years. but they manage to stockpile picks. spend big money in the draft and in international scouting and signing and build from within. then use the additional revenue to supplement their system via free agents and buying out post arbitration years.

So many problems with this, but I only have time for a few. To say he's over-rated defensively is ludicrous. Amaaaaaaaazing range.

They are a MAJOR league team first. They have an obligation to put a decent product on Citi Field.

Don't assume you know me and how I'll react if they ever come close to winning again. I t will not happen under this ownership and management.

Last, it's sad that you as a long time fan are content with losing. A real fan cares.
  8. fathead3381 Full Member

Says the guy who cares enough to never root for the team again. Please. You lose any credibility when talking about what any "real fan" does, because you arent one.

    Moak man is right again.

Mutts could have got a top prospect for Reyes as everybody knew he wouldn't comeback.

For once the Mutts made the right decision not signing Reyes. He will break down half way through the deal and without his speed guy is nothing.
  10. A.Lange=Crazy Full Member

Tejada is a Triple AAAA player.

Signed a bunch of relievers past their prime. It will only get worse for the Mutts.

Where is King? Remember when they got Santana and everybody thought including him the Mutts would own the NL :jj:

    Ditto

A true Mets fan is born that way. You can not pick a new team and stop rooting for them. They might suck, but maybe if in 20 years they do finally win, you will get the utter satisfaction. If you are a lotal, true fan, you stick with your squad.

On Metsblog over 60% of survey responders so they would NOT have wanted the Mets to have given Reyes the same deal. He is a very good player but you can not give out that type of contract.

how'd I know the Philly fan since 2010 would open his big mouth? Let's see how those elderly Phillies do this year, and see how Papelbum blows it in the end as usual. I'd rather be forgotten about by october, rebuild the next few years than to have everyone watch you choke on national TV like the Phillies do. Phillies for baseball and NE for football screams front runner, which is what you are, which is why your opinion is lower than shit. :gwave:

"Open Letter" is just a nicer way of saying "Im a whiny little bitch, I need someone to listen to me cry".
  15. A.Lange=Crazy Full Member

Please ask King douche I have been talking about the Phillies since I got here.

Papelbon has 2 rings and a 1.00 era in the playoffs. Those look like good numbers to me. Do the Mutts even have a closer lmao.

Choke remind me who won the 08 WS?

    Mutts define the word choke.

The Mets don't have the "greatest rotation ever" do they? Are the Mets a World Series favorite every year? Not quite, but according to you the Phillies are the greatest team since the inception of baseball and look what happens, choke city. Nobody remembers the Mets in October, but everyone can watch your team choke and blow it year after year after. I'd compare it to the Eagles but since your just a front runner and there's never a guarantee Eagles will be in 1st all year you are a NE fan. Pathetic really bc I know plenty of Phillies fans and guess who they like for football? Sure as fuck isn't the Pats. Just saying your opinion is really meaningless. 08 was a long time ago been plenty of choking since them dumbfuck :jj:

Dont forget ALC declaring the Cardinals season over in August or September!
  19. A.Lange=Crazy Full Member

You do know the difference between rotation and team right moron? You can't win many games getting shutout. They had the lowest starters era since the 70's.

There is also a difference between losing to the better team and choking. Playoffs usually the hottest team wins which the Cardinals were. Please the Mutts meltdown will always be remembered. At least the Phillies have won a WS which the Mutts haven't done in awhile.

Enjoy your shit owner and continue to finish behind the Phillies. At least you have the Giants right :jj:

How did the Phillies never winning a WS in their ballpark work out?
