What Mitt was saying is completely different. He was talking about making those who were living entirely on the government dole to have some dignity in working to support the child they are raising. This does not apply to Ann Romney and her children who were being financially supported by her husband, not the taxpayer. Mitt is right - people leeching off of the taxpayer should have some of their dignity restored and have to earn some money that goes to raising a child. Again, this does not apply to the Romneys.

I'll be happy to lessen your shock. A stay at home mother is a woman who - along with her husband, decides to have a family where each will have a clearly defined role. The man will provide and the women will keep up the household and nurture the children. A broodmare who has litters of children with multiple men and then decides that the rest of us should provide for her and hers while she does nothing does not fit the definition of a stay at home mom, rather she fits the definition of an irresponsible parasite. I think what Mr. Romney (I'm no fan of his, by the way) is suggesting, is that a woman who finds herself in the latter situation has a responsibility to be somewhat productive. I believe he is suggesting that society could save some money by subsidizing daycare for her brood while she does her part in supporting them, rather than have the rest of us foot the entire bill. He also feels that this might increase her self esteem as an additional benefit. Does this clear things up for you?

Romney was talking about providing them day care so they can work outside the home....I'm sure this is lost on you, but some people feel a loss of dignity by depending upon the government for providing everything for them and their children, they want to earn their own money.
