Artie was awesome for the show. Except for the last year. He was never worse than when Ben Stiller came in and Stern couldn't get Artie off of him about some shitty movie he was in w Stiller. On HTV you could see Howard constantly giving him the "pipe down" hand. That was when it was glaringly clear that Artie was just off the rails and not just running schtick.

Artie maybe failed at Life suicide but he was very succesful at career suicide.
If Dipalo never took advantage of Artie while Artie was and still recovering Artie would be back on the show. Howard hates Dipalo, Dipalo thinks he is better than Howard at radio

Arties new show didn't start till almost 2 years after his last day at Stern. I think by that time it was becoming more and more obvious that he wasn't going to ever sit in the chair again full time.

If you listened to the special Dipaolo, Norton, Attell and Artie did together on Raw Dog, Artie said him and Sirius didn't officially part ways til ~1 month before the first Nick and Artie show.
