Liberty Media Files To Take Control Of SiriusXM

Liberty Media, which currently owns 48% of SiriusXM, has filed with the FCC that it plans on taking that stake over the 50% threshold needed to assume control of the company.
In the filing Liberty stated that “it will have purchased sufficient shares of SiriusXM common stock and will convert its preferred shares such that the transfer of control will be completed within 60 days of commission consent.”
The Wall Street Journal reports that such a move will give Liberty the ability to replace SiriusXM management and merge the company into its own. Among the media properties under Liberty Media’s umbrella areDirecTV, the Encore & Starz premium cable networks, QVC, regional cable sports networks under the “Root” brand in Denver, Pittsburgh, and Seattle and the Atlanta Braves. Liberty announced last week plans to spinoff Starz, partially in order to fund its takeover of SiriusXM.

I believe this will definatly be better for us fans of the HSS.Before the current managment,Howard was working a more,had money for an extra person(Artie),had REAL radio talent like Bubba and not this Abe Cannon or Connan or whatever his name is.This managment gave Jamie Fox and Oprah millions of dollars instead of trying to get Adam Carolla his own channel or cutting Howard's budget..Howard actually wanted to come to work instead of the bitching and suing he's been doing against managment.

If Howie thinks that he's going to be able to fuck around with John Malne like he did with Tom he's got another thing coming. Malone has already said publicly that Mel's statement of not wanting to work under Malone will cause Mel to pack his bags. It's now all about what have you done for me lately and if Howie doesn't perform let's say he may as well stay on AGT.

I agree the current starfuckers running the show have failed miserably in programming, promotion and product quality.

I would not expect changes to happen any time soon. Look how long the government took to approve the xw sirius merger. And even after it is done, much of the current stuff will stay until contracts run out. I would think over the next 3 years things will get better. BUT, prices will go up, and it will be the end of the $5 a month packages for people who threaten to quit.

Howard's probably PRAYING that they buy out his contract. he's rich, he doesn't need to work! Gee, that would be too bad, hanging around the mansion all day with Beth. Wouldn't surprise me if he TRIES to get bought out/fired. I'll miss you howard!

Maybe this means that they will pay Howard his money. Hopefully that thing gets solved, doesn't look good on Sirius/XM's part.

Unless Howard puts in some show prep, hires a comedian and returns to full-time work, Malone will likely put Artie, another comedian or maybe Dan Patrick into Sirius' morning drive time slot.

stern still 1 if not the biggest draw. Malone will make the smart business move and try and keep HS happy. I wont predict that it will definately go or end well, but I think if Malone knows whats good he'll play nice.

My concern is Malone with his religious leaning principles would make some sort of mistake when it comes to HS. At that point I would cancel, more out of principle and less about stern.

I really doubt Howard is a draw for any new subscribers. Anyone that would have come over for him already has. I dont know of anyone under 35 who gives a shit about Howard or even knows who he is at this point.

Mel will be gone. I hope Scott GS too. Tim Sabean should update his resume and quit shitting at work as this personal weakness will "taint" his ability to find a new employer willing to accept "spin art shitting" in their bathroom.

still the reason many subscribe. cancellations would have an impact if Malone pulled some sort of moral termination. the media attention etc. If Stern was an asshole and left on his own ... less impact, but still an impact nonetheless. Liberty doesnt wnat that neg. hit. why would they?

i dont entirely disagree with you. but you only bring up new subscribers..they all count equally. Old subscribers would cancel - at least a chunk would.

I really doubt any huge loss would occur. Worst case scenario, maybe a couple hundred thousand. Malone would massge the numbers to cover that up.

I think your' wrong and think it would be approx 1 mill. even if HS is not the main draw for some, it waters down the brand and now more than ever there is more out there to listen to. Plus the HS media campaign bashing his ex employer would be fun to watch and provide negative press for the newly shaped sirius / liberty.

The day the $ stops Beth is gone.
