Nice. This guy seems like someone who is in the mold of Scalia. Good move.

If Kennedy and Schumer oppose, that is reason enough to support.

I like when Senator Kennedy comments on the beliefs and views of the majority of Americans. For what it's worth, in 2003, the National Journal rated all 100 senators' votes on 32 economic issues, 15 social policy issues and 15 foreign policy issues, and found Senator Kennedy to be the 11th most liberal senator. John Kerry was number one.

As for controversial, Anito was appointed to the Third Circuit by the first President Bush and confirmed unanimously by a Democratic-controlled Senate. Before that he served as an assistant solicitor general in the Reagan Administration, arguing 12 cases before the Supreme Court; as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey; and as a deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel. No one can say he isn't qualified.

Sorry Ihatecabbie, I assumed that you knew how to read. Please have someone literate read my post for you, perhaps they can note that the study was done by the National Journal, not myself. I have no knowledge on the validity of the statistics, hence the preface "For what it's worth..." If you question the validity of the results, why not post a factual rebuttal detailing its faults rather than spewing rhetoric with little intellectual value. Also of note, the word evil, in reference to liberals or otherwise, never appears once in my post.

Concerning the comments on Alito's experience, I find the issue highly relevant, particularly when the issue of experience doomed the Miers nomination. Please have your reader note the thread is titled "Bush NOMINATES Sam Alito to SCotUS" I find it interesting that you automatically assume I meant that Alito was qualified to be confirmed rather than just nominated. I know it's hard to confuse the two when the MoveOn talking points are the source of your knowledge, but try to branch out a little, huh?

IMHO, The administration and conservative commentators started circulating this as a face saving tactic. Whether or not I agree with the current nomination remains to be seen. Judges have a way of evloving. If confirmed, I just hope that he is a strict consititutionalist.

The fact is, a conservative judge will be appointed. For the liberals it is just a matter of making the best decision they can given the circumstances.
