Deal Set To Temporarily Extend Tax Cuts, Jobless Benefits

Both sides about to claim victories. GOP got the tax cuts for the wealthy and Obama got them to extend unemployment benefits and other parts of his fiscal plan

methinks Obama got a lot more than GOP, but those rich people were really desperate for more tax cuts so they gave in

Seriously, did GOP fold on all of these just because they wanted tax cuts for the rich? Damn

    real shocker

elections have consequences...5 weeks ago, high earners would never of had their taxes left alone....

Too bad republicans never worked with obama after the 2008 election.

I do not see where they folded?
  7. zimmie Full Member

judging by the election results, it's a good thing they didn't get sucked in

    Neither should have happened.

We have record deficits and what do we get from our government?

Extended needless tax breaks for the wealthy and extending UI past 99 weeks.

    Utter bullshit.

More proof that Obama is a centrist and not the big liberal that Republicans have claimed he is. He has taken Clinton's playbook and is now using it to ensure he gets another term in 2012.

President Erkel just got this "compromise" shoved up his ass, and he wants everyone to think it was his idea.

He better learn to love it .... he's got two more years of it coming at him.

The very thing that will assure he is elected to a second term. Ironic, isn't it?

Republican support was irrelevant with Obama's supermajority. He could have ended the Bush tax cuts in whatever way he saw fit. 2008 is over... How is that Hopey Changey workin' out for ya?

And btw, doesn't this compromise come with some Social Security reform?

I'd like to submit the whole proposal to the deficit reduction committee to add to the top of the unpaid for bills still on the table.

So how are republicans going to defend this massive spending increase to their Tea Party [strike]masters[/strike] constituents?

No one wants to increase spending. We just have to pass the bill first to see all the decreases.
