Fuck no, we have another rover that's about to land on Mars, it'll be there in about three days. It's been traveling there since November of last year, I'm like a giddy school girl over stuff like that.

I'm not much of a creative writer. I write a lot, but most of it is somewhat technical and persuasive (hopefully). I don't have any experience in science fiction. I did take an astronomy course in undergrad and the associated lab, but I don't feel like I am qualified to come up with an extemporaneous story about Mars in this forum.

In fact, I didn't even know about Curiosity until your post. So I am going to go read up on that now.

I remember getting up at 4:00 a.m. to watch the live coverage of the Apollo 11 moon landing when I was a kid. So I do have an affinity for space exploration. Most of you on here were too young to remember that, or perhaps you weren't even born yet. You cannot begin to imagine what a big deal that was.

Space has got to be the most interesting subject due to the fact of how little we know about it. The Curiosity mission is one of the most sophisticated to date, I'm really worked up about the landing, hope it all goes well.

I was in 10th grade. I know I said earlier that I was a junior in high school in 1977. And I was in the 1977-1978 school year. But this was the 76-77 school year, so I was a sophomore.

We were on a bus at about 1:00 a.m. headed to east Tennessee for a tennis tournament. Vickie was this hot senior. She was not as lean as your typical tennis player. In fact, i would describe her as voluptuous. Black hair, very curvy, and a deep, sultry voice.

I was sitting by myself and she moved up and sat beside me. She engaged me in some small talk for a while. Finally, she confessed that some of the other 12 graders had dared her to kiss a freshman or a sophomore. If she did, her reward would be a pint of whiskey.

I readily agreed, on the condition that she would share the spoils with me.

She only had to effect one brief kiss to secure her reward. But as it turned out we wound up making out for about half an hour.

I had never kissed a girl who smoked. Her breath had the musky smell of Marlboro's and her lips smacked of strawberry lip gloss. It was an intoxicating elixir.

And the next night, at the Whaley Hotel in Gatlinburg, I split a pint of rot gut whiskey with her.

Not that great of a story I suppose, but to a 10th grader, that made my 1977.
