I don't see how Mass loves it. Their budget is in shambles and they aren't covering nearly the amount of people that they thought would end up with coverage. I'd say it was an out and out failure.

99% of Mass residents are covered. It works and is extremely popular. Deal with it.

Assuming Massachusetts loves it, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Massachusetts sure is hell isn't the whole of America.

As I stated in another thread, I think we will see challenges to this when it kicks in.

But it IS in America and it's an example of how health care reform has worked(albeit on a much smaller scale). What's good for the goose is good for the gander as far as I am concerned. Why not give it a shot? I think most Republicans are afraid it will be very popular as a whole, and thus will validate Obama.

Nice to see nothing has changed around here. NCMike is as stupid as ever. At least he's consistent...

I'm sure he was against the FMLA as well since it impacted people's individual liberty to get fired from a job while caring for a family member...

It already does cost more due to the elimination of pre-existing conditions and lifetime maximums. And speaking from someone whose spouse almost hit the lifetime maximum, I'm happy to pay the extra. If it keeps even one person from going bankrupt while battling a disease, it's worth it. Of course, Mike and the other tea party knuckleheads would say, fuck 'em all, let 'em die., our system is fine...

It could very well work; however, I'm not getting my hopes up. Plus, I just don't like the idea of being forced into a private contractual agreement. Sure, one could simply not do so, but then we have to pay a "penalty" tax? You may as well pass a law that says all citizens must own, and be licensed to carry, a firearm, otherwise, you pay a "tax".

Also, what do we have to report to the government about which health care plan we were to choose? Do we have to list the premiums? The benefits? Primary care physician? Prescriptions being paid for by your insurance plan?

Here is what Mitt Romney says about all of that:

"In the 2009 op-ed, Romney advises the President to adopt the controversial individual mandate, which requires every citizen of the United States to either carry health insurance or pay a fine to the Federal government. Romney wrote, "Our experience also demonstrates that getting every citizen insured doesn't have to break the bank. First, we established incentives for those who were uninsured to buy insurance. Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages 'free riders' to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others."

It worked in Massachussettes because the incentive was there. Obamacare will do the same thing.

Itd work better on a national scale cause youd have the feds behind it. In Mass they keep busting out of state people trying to use the Mass Health program.

And they will prevent this at the federal level? Hah!
  11. budgerock Full Member

Yes. There won't be any out-of-staters. Everyone will be covered.

I was making the leap form state borders to country borders...unless you're saying that millions of illegal immigrants aren't already mooching off the system?

Actually, there are 2% not covered. And actually you're saying the same as me. Everyone likes more coverage, no one likes paying for it. And Massachusettes budget is in trouble because of it.

I disagree with your assessment about validating Obama because this will be in full effect as Obama would be on the way out of term 2. There is nothing to gain there for the GOP at that point.

I think I meant it more like validating Obama's/Democrats philosophy that government can actually be helpful and beneficial. This concept seems to anger conservatives.
