Fox News poll: Obama's lead grows as Romney's support slips

Mitt Romney has had a tough couple of weeks on the campaign trail -- and it shows in the latest Fox News poll. After a barrage of campaign ads, negative news coverage of his overseas trip and ongoing talk about his tax returns, Romney’s favorable rating and standing in the trial ballot have declined. As a result, President Obama has opened his biggest lead since Romney became the presumptive Republican nominee.

The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney's 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.

Obama’s advantage comes largely from increased support among independents, who now pick him over Romney by 11 percentage points. Some 30 percent of independents are undecided. Last month, Obama had a four-point edge among independents, while Romney had the advantage from April through early June.

There was also an uptick in support for Obama among women, blacks and Democrats.

    What? Now foxnews is credible?
  5. budgerock Full Member

No, they usually slant conservative. Which makes this poll especially bad for Romney.

I always knew he'd come around and start using Fox News as one of his sources

You're a Romney supporter, yes? Just want to make sure because sometimes you have a real funny way of showing it.

The same way NCMike is an Obama supporter.

    What's funny about it?

Unlike yourself I don't hold the candidate I support above accountability, and give him a pass just because he has an "R" after his name..

    Example..

You believe RINOmney isn't hiding anything by not producing his tax returns like EVERY SINGLE candidate before him did, and at the same time insist that Obama is somehow hiding something because you don't happen to like his birth cert.

Something tells me you wouldn't be so dismissive and cavalier about it if it was Obama or a Dem refusing to furnish their returns..

But mainly I was making light of all the failed predictions..

I thought the exact same thing in 2004 when He Who Can Not Be Named got re-elected..

That's odd....in 2004 the growth rate was 4.4% the highest it had been in 5 years...psst....(that included some Clinton years)

I'll tell you what, can you please list all of the circumstances in which it is acceptable to use a fox news link so that I can have some guidance going forward which you will deem proper?

No, I don't think Mitt is hiding something just because he is releasing 2 years of tax returns. It's the Democrat Party (and you, apparently) who need to see 10 years+ so they can comb through them and toss this and that number out to continue to distract from the economy.

Now, answer this for me, if you will - in the 2008 cycle John McCain released 2 years of tax returns. Why didn't Obama and his operatives demand to see more back then? Why didn't they go on tv and stomp their feet about it and imply that Senator McCain had "something to hide?"

    Go.

    So...FOX News,huh?

You mean like Obama's Birth cert.? The FEC was satisfied with it. Why was the Republican party (and you apparently) making an issue of it? And wasn't it you who suggested that ALL candidates release their long form BC, and 14 years of utility bills? I'm almost certain that was you. Not surprising that you haven't asked to see RINOmney's And I could be wrong, but weren't some of his Republican primary challengers taking him to task for refusing to release his returns? I highly doubt it's only Democrats who want him to release them..

Like I said.. If Obama was refusing to release his you would have made 10 threads about it.

At any time did McCain refuse to release his returns?

    Go.

How could you have expected romney-bot to do anything but sink like a rock when just about any rock has a better personality and is easier to warm up too. [IMG]

If anyone thinks that the vote will be +9 D in November, I have some bridges I need to sell... any takers ?

(which is very similar to the recent state polls from VA and OH.... btw)

The day after the Democrat Convention in 1984 Newsweek released a poll that showed Mondale leading President Reagan by 18 points.

Which is why you never depend on data from a single poll...like FOX News, CNN or Rasmussen...but aggregate polling data, like that found at RealClearPolitics, which has Obama up 4.5%.

Nate Silver is the best political statistician out there, though...and he gives Obama a 73.3% chance at reelection.
