Looking for some opinions on quality, ease of maintenance, and reliability.

Shot ten guns today and I have some decisions to make.

1st gun was a Ruger Mark III .22

fun and cheap to shoot, but I doubt I'll get one.

the 2nd one I shot was a Beretta 9mm that had a Tasco Propoint site mounted on it.

I'm leaning towards the 9mm because the ammo is pretty cheap, the mags holds more than the .357, and it's fast to reload.

What type of handgun you need depends heavily on the intended use. You didn't give us much to go on . A .22 is great for plinking and target shooting but almost worthless for self-defense.

I don't like the 9 mm for either.

mostly for target shooting but also for home defense.

Get two then. Get you a nice .22 for fun, and maybe the .357 you mentioned earlier for home defense. But make sure you practice a lot with the .357. You can use some cheap reloads for practice but keep a good round like this chambered when you have it at home: http://www.eoutdoorsupplies.com/product_info.php?products_model=1850-gr

I have owned a lot of guns in my time. The Walther PPK was my favorite, but sold it in favor of the Glock 9mm. The Beretta is an awesome quality firearm, and I love it, but heavy to use in time of distress. The Glock is light and fast. However, when things go bump in the night IMOA a shotgun it the best defensive weapon to own. Try out the Glock.

I've got the Glock Model 23 which is a .40 and I love it. 13 round mag.

my neighbor was telling that the glock is really easy to break down and clean.
  17. BaddFunn Full Member

I learned today that all the competitive shooters do their own reloading because the bullets are more accurate. The more you know.

Next one was a Dan Wesson .357. The only revolver I shot.

Your neighbor is correct. Ask him to show you how easy it is and I am sure he will sell you on this firearm.

Revolvers are slower to reload and only carry 6 rounds, so unless you are a sharpshooter, you had better staying with a "automatic" handgun. Revolvers are harder to clean because you not only have to clean the barrel, but each revolver port as well. Very time consuming.

Any quality handgun today starts at around $500.00 and up. Plus the ammo. Ammo is very expensive these days.
