Less than 12 months? It's been over 3 years since Artie did his cry for help, the first 8 or 9 of those months he spent in a funny farm.

Also, I heard most terrestrial stations dropped him - what "nationwide" affiliates is he still on?

I like that Artie is making the news, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. He hosts a midnight sports show, which is on some AM radio stations (how many again??). And satellite radio and "satellite" television(on a channel no one knows about), where his "show is adapted to fit TV" (what the f does THAT mean?)

If you think Artie's on Howard's radar, you're delusional - the only way Howard would know about Artie is if Gary talks to him about Artie, which he doesn't. Howard's thought of Artie 4 times off-air in the "past 12 months" - 1) when he read how he beat up his girlfriend and got arrested in Paris, 2) when he read about Artie pissing on the floor, 3) when he heard Artie allowed his best friend to be fired, and 4) when he read about the 49er-gay controversy (which, granted, Howard would have wished happened on his show). Howard wants Artie to be successful, the few times he bothers to even remember him. Stop projecting your hatred of Howard and spinning it into irrational bullshit. TIA...

And yes, Artie is still on drugs. Good for him, and enjoy him while you can...

I know a shit load of people with vehicles that came with XM, when I get in their vehicles, not one of them has subscribed to the best of to get Stern. I would guess that a lot of those 700k subscribers to the best of, were people that already had Sirius(specifically to listen to Stern) and then bought a vehicle that had XM in it so they got the "best of package" to hear Stern. I'm still a fan, and usually tend to disagree with your "hate" of what the show has become, but I can be honest and say I doubt Howard has brought much for subscriptions since the first couple of years, no matter what he rants on about.

The whole AGT thing doesn't bother me, I really don't care one way or another if he is on it and I did try and watch it, it's just not my thing and I stopped(wife and kids liked it somewhat). Tell me this, even though they are apparently gone now(Sharon for sure and Howie maybe?), were or are they really that relevant to anyone young?

Sure Howard is fired up and ranting, it's about money. How much does one person need? How much is enough? The more he gets the more he wants. I don't believe it's about principals or the validity of his contract. It's about the dough ray me.

Stern has no idea how the legal system operates. First of all, a jury will NOT hear his case. It will be heard by a judge.

Secondly, the summary judgement appeal will be heard by the SAME judge who granted it in the first place. They are rarely- if ever- overturned. Good job badmouthing her on the air.

I've speculated that Stern has 2M listeners. Not bad. It was enough to get him the AGT contract. Sirius XM is in a ton of cars. Most people do not activate it. But say someday they go partially free (some channels) and go with a commercial model? That would kill terrestrial.

As for Howard, if he leaves this medium, unless he goes back to FM, it is over. I love the show, but I only listen in my car. I'd listen to podcasts, but am not paying. I like Phil Hendry, too, but that guy seems to be hurting for business with his mostly paid podcast site.

Though I'm sure some dude would put Howard's podcasts on a torrent site.

You're too hung up on XM and it's "Best of Sirius" package. Sirius itself had over 8 million listeners before the merger, way more than the 600,000 it had when Howard first signed. It's just a denial of reality to think a lot of them, meaning those that specifically chose Sirius over XM, weren't at least casual Howard listeners. Not everyone listens all day, every day, some people just tune in for a short amount of time, as is the case with most radio shows. And no, I doubt Mel was a big proponent of signing Howard to another huge contract, as Howard himself has mentioned that Mel said he would not have allowed Howard to have such a large contract in the first place had he been running the company at the time. Either way, when the deal was first announced, analysts said Howard would have to bring in a million subscribers to not only pay for his deal but be profitable, so by that standard: Mission Accomplished, and then some. No other singular figure IN ALL OF ENTERTAINMENT could even dream of pulling that off, and you know that's the truth.

Really? Looks to me like giving away or discounting subscriptions brought it more. Sirius could have easily topped Howard's "million subscribers" by investing the King's $500 mil in freebies or $1 a month subscriptions.

he gets paid based on the number of subscribers brought in since he was hired, not the amount of subscribers listening to his show. Its a phenomenal deal, and Sirius agreed to it because they never thought they would merge with XM years later.

Kudos to Sirius for finding a loophole in the contract and slipping out of the deal....classic Suge Knight move!

I think that's only part of it. I think he's angry that Sirius management won't listen to him, won't take his suggestions, and leaves him out of all day-to-day decisions. As far back as 3-4 years ago, he was clearly hurt when they contacted Rosie O'Donnell and gave her a show... but not on the Howard 101 channel. Plus they never acknowledged that he was the one who had the idea for her to do an ISDN show from her house.

So to me, it's more about respect than it is the money. On the other hand, Howard's delusional if he thinks he's due some kind of "Oprah-sized" payment. I think he was getting a one-time bonus of around $10 million per 2 million listeners, so even if you counted the additional 10 million subscribers, we'd be talking a $50 million bonus. And he's already making more than $50 million a year.

Sirius should offer him $10 million as a settlement, offer to listen to more of his ideas for Sirius if he wants to give them advice, and then tell Howard to get back to work.

Howard Stern put Sirius on the map. They had maybe a third of the amount of subscribers XM had when he signed and in just a few years, they become the dominant company and forced XM into merging with them. Howard was the shot in the arm that not just Sirius, but the entire satellite radio industry, needed. Why not just accept it and be happy? Also, name another entertainer who could pull it off?
