Look for a movie called The If Debate. It was really interesting how they approached just what you are asking about. When all is said and done, no matter what you arent going to stop people from using these drugs, so you have a choice. Let a bunch of thugs and criminals control it and get no benefit from a business that makes billions or control it in a realistic way that reduces harm to society as much as possible.

Prostitution is legal here in Australia and the government profits from license fees (the girls must be licensed for it to be legal, streetwalking is still illegal) and STD testing fees which they must submit to every 3 months I think it is. Not to mention taxes on what was previously untaxable income.

This is a issue we are facing in AZ right now. We are a legal state ( the thing barely passed by like 300 votes) anyways basically the Gov. of AZ halted the dispensaries from opening but now they have the green light and he law in AZ was written so that if any MMJ patient lived with in 25 miles of a dispensary they would no longer be allowed to cultivate the plant, making and letting the dispensary charge high prices for meds. Sucks... Cali has a good law 99 plants !

Well AZ already makes $150.00 in what they call the "application fee" same price for a re-newel too.

It is, its been written about before. It's their cash crop. They lose 100 keys of cocaine they make up the difference by smuggling marijuana. A pound of the Mexican shit weed usually goes for about 400 a pound here in AZ, take that to Detroit or Chicago and the pounds go for 800-900 street price.
