Mutt - I have a serious question for you.

Who's lying? Why am I wrong? You can disagree, no problem but I'm not saying you're wrong because you disagree. I feel I do know what I'm talking about. Have a nice day.

Mutt has said repeatedly that he doesn't consider the show better than it's ever been and he's repeatedly said that he has nothing at all against show criticism on his site.

So when you posted what Mutt's reply was going to be, you were either posting about something you knew nothing about, or lying.

Howard's life and thoughts ad everything else is so different than when he started or even 10 years ago. Since the show is totally about HIM, of course it's going to be different. I still like to listen though.

You just don't get it do you? You don't. Have a great weekend!

Seriously? Howard got the gigantic contract from which he was to use that money to program the channels. In addition to his gigantic contract, he got multi-million dollar bonuses and cashed in on Sirius stock. So instead of 100M a year, he got 80 and the rest was for staff and programming. It was entirely up to him to program the channels. He figured he could save money like the cheap fuck he is by skimping on the channels. But don't tell me that Howard101 DOESN'T reflect poorly on Howard, because that is his baby.

Then WHY RENEW HIS CONTRACT? Why the hell didn't just quit while he was ahead?

The show isn't living on, it's lingering.

mutt has to much time and money invested in stern for him to tell the truth about the show
  8. crackfinger Full Member

I'm sure he's making good money with this current contract so he wasn't ahead until he signed it.

Howard's show has always been about what's on his mind. Some people who used to like what was on his mind in the past don't like what's on his mind in the present. They are perfectly free to stop listening anytime but it's Howard's own decision when to stop working. He doesn't need to stop working just to cater to strangers who cannot exercise their own free will.

You make it sound like any part of that budget that isn't spent on the channels goes into Howard's pocket. I'm fairly certain that's not how it works. Howard's salary is fixed at whatever it is. The remainder of the budget is divided among different line items, and can't be used for something else. Of course, I have no direct knowledge of how Sirius is run, but that's the way things work in the corporate world.

I'm pretty sure Mutt knows the show is very bad compared to what it once was. But he he's a team player, so he won't give his full opinion regarding the current state of the show.

While neither of us know what goes on in terms of the budget/funding for 100 and 101, I think it's fair to say Howard has lost that eye of tiger that made his early work so memorable. Remember when Stuttering John scammed Grillo but didn't make him do anything funny? I remember Howard turned that bit into an hour's worth of hilarity reaming John for thinking it was funny.

Today, I can't imagine Howard doing anything but faux-laughing and telling John how brilliant it is. Then playing it again, after taking a call from Bobo about how great it was.

I'm not sure I can think of even one single example of a person who has the same drive in their elder years as they did in their younger years.

Maybe Woody Allen. Dude still pops out a film a year; and many of them are still great. That's all I can come up with.

I get bummed about Howard a little because the show still has flashes of brilliance, so we know he's still capable of it, but it just doesn't happen nearly as often. I like to think that he's bummed about the litigation and his heart just isn't in it...because that's the kind of problem that can be fixed.

We are actually getting more Howard now that the show is 2 days a week

Finally, someone who gets it! I mean the guy is in his 60's, what does he have left to do? I really don't think the show is as bad as everyone says it is, by no means is it the juggernaut it was in the '90s but I think it has matured rather well.

"The same drive" is asking for a lot. But I can think of any number of people who at least still give a damn about their work at Howard's age and a lot older.

And even then, most of them don't run around telling everyone this is the best work they've ever done.

The extra content that was promised was doomed from the start because the cost for it was included in the payments to Howard.

Howard had a choice: Howard could keep $500 million and have no content, or he could keep less than $500 million and have content.

True, but I think he's doing it because he's fallen out of love with SiriusXM, so he wants to talk on the radio, he just doesn't want to do much more than that. I wonder, if he got out of Sirius and did his own internet radio show, an operation fully funded by him, where he is in 100% complete control of absolutely everything, I wonder where that would take us. Howard is angry, but he's not purposely trying to fuck the fans over. I see it more like a "you know, I feel betrayed by these Sirius people, so I don't owe them what I can bring to the table, so I'll do the bare minimum" and yes, the fans get fucked over in the process, but I never thought his intentions were to hurt his fans. Makes no sense, its counter-productive.

Contrary to what many say, I dont think Howard has ever catered to his fans. He has always been about himself, and people follow him because of that way he is. Problem these days is, that attitude is not working for us anymore. Still, I reiterate myself on what I have said before: I do enjoy listening to Howard talk bullshit with Robin, and I still laugh. That's part of the reason why I'm here talking about the show. Those who find no joy in listening to the show and come here to just bitch about how they dont listen anymore or hate it, well that's the other reason I'm here: you motherfuckers are so emo about the show its too easy to troll you. :boink:
