they have 50% less vehicles per cap, but 20% of people have a cottage i think thats a trade of that would be hypothetically possible in the US, of course the auto workers wouldnot be buying them :jj:

the size of norway's welfare state is twice what the US is, with very little inequality, without the welfare state relative poverty rates might be similar to the US (though in absolute terms they would still be doing very well).

i dont think its wrong to see that people are provided for, but in the US reducing inequality to that degree it would require such a massive fundamental shift in the public opinion about wealth, material standard of living and so on that i dont think anyone would go along with it. maybe if we had a 2nd great depression or other massive calamity, where people would be forced to consider society as a whole and not just a collection of individuals such a paradigm shift could occur.

Is it? Let's find out if it is
Actually we have UN commitments when it comes to the imports of people so most of the refugees coming here from iraq, afghanistan and somalia (some hell holes your country has helped create) we can't turn them back.

I just wanted to show a weird story from my 'homeland' I don't expect any country to pick up this trend.
    Where did you go ?

Japan has small farms and heavy government regulations - those were the points you made trying to explain why the cost of food was disproportionally high. Both countries import the bulk of their food and rely on fishing for a significant portion of their diet.

As for the beef, I bet you couldn't tell the difference.

You might be right in saying that our countries are similar on these issues, but there are a lot of other factors determining prices for food (at least in Norway).
The price that farmers each year get over here is determined by this :

Who knows what determines prices in Japan? Maybe Mcdonalds lower prices in some countries to better compete with the local cuisine?
You don't think it's a little obscure to try and look at purchasing power through the price of 1 fast food item? Since the local market only can supply a few percent of the demand I doubt the Japanese big macs are even made with Japanese beef. You'll need to compare a wider range of items looking at purchasing power.

I probably wouldn't taste the difference when it came to minced meat and that type of food. I believe I would when it came to a steak. Cows aren't supposed to eat corn and the diet messes with the nutritional values of the meat, making it a lesser quality product. Some countries have banned American meat because of the lax regulations.

Cool. It's quite popular for tourists to travel up and down the country and see the nature on their own although the roads here are awful. At least they offer a closer look at nature

Your little anecdotal details are riveting. For someone who "doesn't care", you sure are trying hard.

I don't know him (unfortunately I've met many like him), but a recent google search returned this website . . .

    http://www.davedubya.com/

The similarities are obvious, but when I asked Fdub if that was him, all I got was a warning from SFN Staff (copter).
