Newsflash! Obama was elected on the promis of healthcare reform . Republicans act as if obamacare was some sort ambush.

Like the OP said. The GOP doesn't have any plan to deal wh healthcare. Even mitt was talking about keeping the extended coverage for kids up to 26 and protecting preexisting people. That's obamacare!!

You're right about the elections, I'm interested to see how this decision is going to fire up the bases, Mitt was already riling up the teabaggers. I would love to see the ideals this country was founded on to stay true like you mentioned, but I think society as a whole is just too fucked up and divided to make it that way again, doesn't matter which side holds the office. I don't think it's because of what Obama, or Romney or other politicians have said, politcs itself has become a partisan game, where you pick your side like you're rooting for your favorite team, and hope the other team crashes and fails. That kind of mentality gets nothing done, which is where we're at now, and I just think in this day and age of internet, bloggers, 24/7 news outlets, civility is dead and no matter which way we end up, there's always going to be 1 half of the country that disagrees with it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, that's 2012 politcs.

What does it cost the "system" when people can't pay for health care?....

They still go to the hospital. They still get health care. Then they end up with massive bills and they go bankrupt and lose everything. Everyone loses. The banks...the credit card companies...every debt they have ends up getting wiped out. It sounds like there are far more significant costs that stretch way past healthcare when someone isn't covered then if they are.

It's even better than that: It's Romneycare!

But the solution to the problem that we are providing people with costly services for free isn't to then provide even more services from a system that is already in short supply relative to the demand.

I have never had any problems with getting health care. My wife has a medical issue that requires her to see specialists on a regular basis. I shudder to think of paying directly for those services. I know that one procedure she had would have cost us $50,000 without knowing if it would actually help her or not... I know nothing of anyone getting "rationed care"...When I have needed emergency care I have received it. There have been some delays in that on occasion but nothing I could complain about. When I have needed standard care I have been able to get in to see my doctor when I needed it. I actually have my doctors cell # and have used it once when my son was having an issue. He saw us 20 minutes later...

We need to purchase extra insurance when traveling out of the country. The other supplemental insurance people buy is usually for drug benefits, dental benefits and vision care. Included in those insurance plans are usually some kind of bump up to a private room if you are hospitalized...

Because of my wife's condition we have a drug benefit that covers about 95% of the drugs you could ever need...Our co-pay was $2 until about two months ago...now it's $0. If we were paying for all of them it would be about $1000 a month. Some of them are for drug trials for her specific condition so they cover them.

There was a situation with my son when he was going on two. He developed a very strange rash and we took him to the emergency room as it was a Sunday night. They rushed him in and put us in an isolation room. He ended up getting sent home but we were told to get him in right away with his GP. The GP saw us at 9 the next morning and had a dermatologist see us within 15 minutes (he worked in the same building). He had a serious concern that it was a disease that would need to be treated in an emergency manor. They cleared a spot for us at The Hospital For Sick Children in Toronto (world renowned hospital). We were there in 20 minutes and they were waiting at the entrance for him to be seen. He was treated by the Head of Pediatrics and we were lucky that he was found to have only had a reaction to a vaccine. The alternative would have been a a very short life for him. I again shudder to think of the costs that would have been involved in that event...I would have done anything any one of those doctors said to make sure my son was okay...What would have happened if I lived in the US and all this happened?...If it had been the disease they thought it was...it would have been a preexisting condition he was born with.

We all know that story well. $100,000?...$200,000?...instant, massive debt that would not have been recoverable from...

If I have to wait a week... or wait in emerg for a few hours..I will take it over anything you guys have down there. Tell me all about how you have better doctors...better machines...better research...all a load of shit...We have doctors that are just as good...research that is leading the world in many areas. We have the same machines...

    Proudly Canadian.

Then a whole bunch of you guys should listen to the First Lady and start eating your veggies...

Preventative care would solve 50% of the problems you guys have(or more?). Obesity is the leading cause of almost all your health issues down there.

I've seen previous posts of yours regarding your wife's condition and your personal experience with your healthcare.......and you are not the only Canadian to post similar experiences. What I do not understand is why the right INSISTS on dismissing these posts, completely ignoring them and then saying "I've talked to a lot of Canadians and get mixed feelings from them about their healthcare, the wait times, rationed care blah blah blah" on and on but never respond to your posts directly.

I would really like someone from the right to reply directly to your post. Anybody?

Glad to hear your son's health scare turned out fine, I had a similar scare with my son when he was a baby, at the time, 9 years ago, we had 100% percent coverage. I cannot imagine what we we would have done if we had been under insured or had no insurance. If I rember correctly it was close to $80,000 when all was said and done.

My best to you and your wife regarding her health issues, my sister has a chronic illness so I get how stressful etc. it can be.

The comment about the "best" comes from those who continue to argue that the US has the best healthcare in the world...

I can't speak to the "50% pay no income tax" without doing some research.

I didn't take anything you were saying as "anti" anything...

Conservatives spin healthcare in other countries as terrible, but then why isnt healthcare and quality of life not dominated by the US?
