No one tells me that ever... especially since it earns. When i was younger I got flack for spending so much time at it, because then I avoided most people to concentrate on it. Most think if you sit in front of the computer, then you must be fucking off, whereas on a typewriter at least they can hear you clacking the keys away. Over time, those that couldnt handle, left. Those that understood, stayed. When they say writing is a solitary profession, they aren't kidding.

    I am who I say I am.

See I've never been paid for it or published or anything...so when people tell me to stop and that I suck, I take it to heart.

never write what people want you to write - that is your first piece of advice

Most of what I wrote in the past was about people with gender identity problems....They say, "write what you know."

Boy that really narrows it down.

Also, someone published that Beth O book about dogs.

That's all you really need to know about the business.

writing is fun, scripts go a lot quicker if you have a writing partner to fire ideas off of (especially with the type of shlock I'm into)

never attempted to write a book, but i think that Dio's is to be admired for his motivation to write all the time. I get caught up with work and don't get to write as much as I'd like. Hopefully that changes soon...:cash:

I do lack having someone to bounce ideas off of, particularly with scripts. I feel my ideas are too abstract to relay them in a way that becomes convincing as a film idea. The beauty of digital moviemaking is that the process of making a movie the "regular" way, that is with film, eschews the necessity to have a budget etc. If you can learn to film, edit, write, that takes out the need to outsource and dilute your vision more and more.

I would love to share my books in here, but people are haters and I am positive they would go out of their way to trash them publicly without having read them at all. I don't mind negative criticism if it will teach me something. I have built my rep up too much to let some fools with lots of free time (i.e. salli) systematically cause collateral damage irl.

I agree, but film just looks so much better. If you're talented enough, you can make your ideas work on whatever budget you have. The good thing about a writing/filmmaking collaboration is that if you find the write person/people anything you lack can be made up for. I write/direct/produce/fx/stunt, but my main collaborator can edit & write and we have back up people to do art/design and another guy as our main producer. I just sent off two scripts, one we are going to film, and one we're going to sell. I did 4/5 the work, but he'll be fleshing out anything I may have missed. I prefer working this way as opposed to alone. Writing a book would probably drive me insane.

yeah, I know. I tried. Peopel tend to bail. I'm not really in the tight circle of people that makes films, and I am used to doing it all myself.

Writing for film is different, because the process of making a film is such a collaboration. There are so many fingers in the pie that it takes on a life of it's own. As an example, even with hard core direction every actor will put a part of their interpretation into a role. Your initial vision begins to change, based on what develops as the process ensues. Sometimes for the better, other times not so much.

My point is, in film making you don't have near the control you do in writing a book :)

I realize that -- once I can find meaningful collaborators, I might be able to realize my ideas sooner than later.

That's one of the best parts of the process, you have an idea and it turns into this giant monster, driven by everyone who takes part. Goddamn, I can't wait to film this fall.

I'm saying even with menaingful collaborators your vision will change. It's just a part of the process, because you have a vision in your mind that won't be realized. It may be better than your original idea, it may not. But it won't be the same because too many others are involved

    That's all :)
