Probationary Members - The 30/30 rule

this is my fear as well. when a post does show up do people think you're an asshat for commenting on something hours or days later?

I don't mind this probationary period at all. This board seems amazingly spam-free. I've been here a while but I tend to be a little shy, so I don't always jump in when I have something to say. Perhaps I need to do that more often so I can finally see "Full Member" under my name!

As a probationary member, I cannot start a new thread in the Howard Stern forum.

you should get rid of this rule . it makes sense when you have a vibrant community, not a dead community. to deter whatever the 30/30 rule is suppose to deter, i suggest something less extreme like 10/10.

I am absolutely fine with the 30 day probation, dagnammit.

Signed up 4 years ago, and I believe this might be my 4th post. I'll make it someday. Wish I could search because most of what I do is read and look for info on all the cool Stern stuff I missed out on over the years. Was never able to listen until I got Sirius about 4 years ago.

Well, it's been significantly over 30 days since joining and I still can't post new threads. I thought newbies can post new threads right away. It seems this web site is just plain buggy. And the need to post 30 threads is a challenge when I can't even post 1. Overall this and other restrictions seem unrealistic, like the inability to edit, which I find to be HUGELY inconvenient. It seems this is more a "bug" than a worthwhile strategy, because every other site I've ever visited that allows editing, allows it for all members. No other site has a probationary period or a member category called "probation", which I find hugely insulting and condescending. This is the only web site I've ever visited that treats "new" members as if they...aren't welcome. No other site I've ever visited makes this distinction - it's almost something I'd expect in...China. It's dictatorial. Perhaps new members can pay an entry fee, say $20, to avoid this hassle, to immediatley get all the (ahem) benefits. I've been listening to Stern for at least 20 years, actually recording his show on tape, now on mp3, and have my own private archive. This is NOT the way to treat the real fans like me. What you could do, to test who is and isn't a real fan, since that's your real objective, not to limit spamming, is give new members test questions. If they get 3 out of 4 relatively easy questions right (like naming any guest on that or the previous day's show), they get immediate access to all benefits, or they get the 30/30 rule. The test questions would limit both non fans AND spammers.

Who runs this web site, the PTA? The ethos is completey different from that promoted by the Stern show. Is this in fact the boards for the "Howard Stern Show" as broadcast on Sirius satellite radio? Or is there some other "Howard Stern"?

Hey guys, I posted my 30th message today, after 5 years of being a member. I even go a 5th anniversery message yesterday. How long before the probation status is lifted? I thought is would happen as soon as my post count hit 30. Just curious.
