Question for the liberals on oil prices

Discussion in 'Politics' started by tourette_ticker, Mar 1, 2012.

Since it seems you are all on board supporting Chu saying that the energy department doesn't have a goal of lowering gas prices how will you feel when Obama moves to drop gas prices closer to the election?

Will you all condemn the administration when it decides to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve? If prices haven't come down significantly I guarantee that this will be the move, even though there will be no shortage of oil. This will make dropping oil prices a purely political move.

    Get on the record now.

I didn't really care for it when Bush did it even thought there was a supply disruption so I will go on the record saying Obama should not make this move. But he will.

I think it would be unfortunate if such an event did occur, but you seem to be convinced it will. Care to share with us, the info you've obtained that brings you to this conclusion? :coffee2:

I personally love when gas prices go up reguardless of who's in power. $5/gallon is too cheap.

I usually do not make these types of statements but this is the most retarded post I've seen in a very long time.
  6. dogcow Full Member

why, there could be sound reasoning behind his statement.

I hope for a day when we do not rely on fossil fuels for our energy needs.

I also drive a VW Jetta TDI and get 45+ miles to the gallon and work about 2 miles from my house. I fill up once a month at the most. Hell, if the cost of fuel really skyrockets, I could process my own biodiesel.

If oil prices were going this high because of a shift in supply and/or demand then your OP would have some merit.

If Obama releases supply from the SR DOE would not be doing it, so that answers the Chu question.

Obama would be doing it to fight the speculators who are artifically driving up prices just to make a buck because of Middle East tensions.

Why is the price of gas going up:

There is a politician facing reelection in a still struggling economy with billboards all over the country (gas company signs) reminding everyone how high gas prices are. Gas prices could be dropped immediately by making a political decision to release oil from the SPR, thereby helping his reelection chances.

It wouldn't reduce them a significant amount. Certainly not enough to change who someone would vote for IMO. And the reason for the temporary change would be on the news.

the oil reserves hold 700m barrels, world consumption is 80 million barrels per day. Releasing all of our reserves would only be eight days of supply.

Obama and a lot of other democrats won't have to worry shit about the economy and gas prices come November if the republicans keep the focus on abortions, contraceptives and gay rights. Its like they are trying to get democrats (re)elected.

You guys are talking logic. I am talking politics.
  15. tourette_ticker Full Member

I can't argue with that. This truly is the Republican's election to lose and the do seem bent on doing just that.

It would be interesting to see how well your kids survive when your TDI get's slammed by a pickup truck loaded with air conditioners.
But then again, you probably don't have any, and in typical Liberal fashion, think everyone should follow your divine way of thinking.

    Dummy.

I thought he was going to do it "closer to the election". We are still 8 months from election day.

Therefore you were wrong and did not see this coming. Typical right winger changing history to suit himself.

There has been no release yet so cool your jets. In fact the administration is backing away from the claim without denying it. It will come out during the summer driving season.

I have 3 kids and don't appreciate your wishes for their deaths. And in typical conservative fashion you are a hateful cocksucker.

You are the one who posted an article that said this was going to happen "shortly". This comes after you said it is going to happen close to the election. Which is it?

Releasing the reserves is going to save us about 5-10 cents a gallon, if that much. This is definitely the ace up Obama's sleeve that is going to guarantee him another 4 years. How did you figure out the Obama campaign so easily?

I love the fallacy nested in this. Really a wonderful talk radio point.
So if they say they will lower prices they will be attacked and if they don't say it they will be attacked. :jj:
