Question for the liberals on oil prices

I agree with the first bit. But all of this is a lot of bluster from you about something that you will not comment on and makes no difference to you.

And, how long do you think that price dip lasts? Do you really think come November the typical voter will be standing in the booth fondly remembering the temporary $2 he saved at the pump a few months ago and say 'boy I was on the fence but that $20 bucks I saved over the summer was all thanks to Obama'.

    That is insane. :jj2:

Your prediction is not going out on a ledge. If you ask everybody, do you think Obama will or will not release the reserves I bet you north of 90% will say he will do it. You are not exactly predicting the Cubs to win the world series. You are predicting something that is rumored all over the press.

It makes no difference to me because from everything I read, releasing the reserves would save us maybe a dime a gallon at the pump. We would release enough oil for about 8 days worth of oil. I drive a Honda Civic, normally fill up about 10 gallons and in 8 days I would fill up probably twice. So for me, releasing the reserves would say me about $2. Fortunately I am in a position where $2 over the course of 8 days, is not going to make or break me and I will survive. Therefore, why worry about something that at the end of the day, will have no effect on my life one way or another. Now if it was going to get the price at the pump down 50 cents a gallon for a few weeks, then maybe it would be a different story.

My OP was from a couple of weeks ago. Before the (at least current) rumors.

You agree that it will happen, you think everyone else agrees that it will happen, and it will only happen for political reaons. It seems you agree with what I said so what is your point in all these posts then? Do you have one?

Exactly. The whole thing is ridiculious. Releasing the reserves is not being done for political gain, it is being done to attempt to drop the price of gas. Even if it is extremely temporary and not necessarily a smart move but like I said earlier, its a dog and pony show. Just like 90% of politics.

It depends on how they dole it out, but I agree the effect will be short lived and minimal. Our problem at this moment isn't a lack of crude, it's a lack of refined gasoline.

    My point is
    a) this thread is useless
    b) your stating the obvious
    c) your trying to make a partisian issue into something that is not

What is your point in creating this thread beside stating the obvious?
  9. tourette_ticker Full Member

No, but I think if prices are too high over the summer (peak driving time and peak gas price time) many will decide not to vote Obama then and there. No matter what the price is in November if it's too bad this summer he will lose voters.

I could not disagree more. The American people are not going to elect a crazy person in Romney or Santorum because gasoline is 50 cents a gallon higher then we would all like it to be.

Gasoline can be $5 per gallon, none of the current GOP nominees will beat Obama unless hell freezes over. It has nothing to do with Obama doing a good or bad job, it has to do with who his competition is and they will vote for Obama just to not vote for Romney or crazy rick.

They are closing down 3 refineries in the Philadelphia area. They learned tha they can manipulate he price through production of gas here. Thanks to ENNRON. By the way the US is producing more oil now than anytime during the BUSH presidency

Dont let those facts get in the way of the right wing propoganda. They also think they keystone would lower gas prices in the US. It would not since all the oil would be exported. Right wingers are not bright enought o know that the only reason the republicans are pushing it, is because it is in their best personal financial interest to do so.

How much are we shipping to China? Lets not overlook that !

Like you said, the bottom line is the US is producing more oil right now then in at least the past decade if not more. But since Rush and Hannity dont tell the right wingers that, they have no idea and just listen to Sarah Palin tell them we can drill our way to $2 a gallon gas.

or might it not be the correct response since we continue to be gouged by the same elements that you haven't addressed under Bush or Oblammy. that is republic party genius. you have eliminated Obomba's ability to act or not act without facing your fake outrage :jj:
    hannitized!
  16. HanzoTheRazor Full Member

maybe that will allow you to address the cost increases instead of crying about the Democrat party
  17. HanzoTheRazor Full Member

why is Bammy closing refineries? :jj2:
  18. HanzoTheRazor Full Member

what about for lowering prices? it is your own contention that prices went down simply on the rumor. so which is it now?
