Robin vs pink slime

Once again Robin is an uninformed idiot. She says "pink slime" is made out of things like tendons and treated with dangerous chemicals.

The truth is that it is made out of boneless lean beef and treated with ammonium hydroxide which is used to safely kill bacteria and has been used since 1974. You've been eating this most of your life.

Plants that produce this throughout the country are being closed and people are losing jobs due to misinformed idiots like Robin spouting ignorance that she knows nothing about.

Robin may be wrong, but let's be honest about what pink slime is. It's leftover beef trimmings, heated and spun in a centrifuge to separate the meat from the fat, and treated with ammonium hydroxide to kill pathogens, which also retains the pink color. The real issue with pink slime is one of informed decision making. When something is labeled 100% ground beef, a reasonable person could assume that it's made by putting a big slab of beef through a meat grinder. If it was labeled, like mechanically separated poultry is, then people could at least choose whether they wanted to eat it or not.

Trim is the meat and fat that is trimmed away when beef is cut into steaks and roasts. This lean beef is used in hamburger, sausage, ground beef, and as a valuable ingredient in many other foods. They use a puff of ammonia to eliminate bacteria safely and effectively. When combined with moisture naturally in beef, ammonium hydroxide is formed, a natural compound, which is widely used in the processing of numerous foods, such as baked goods, cheeses, gelatin, chocolate, caramels, and puddings – to slightly increase the pH level in beef and improve its safety.

That is the responsibility of the USDA which is a government entity. You can't blame the beef industry when they are following USDA guidelines.

If your brother truly worked at one of these places, then you know what is ground up and sold as "beef". I worked for a meat brokerage and I do know exactly how this stuff is processed. They use everything but the furry end of the tail. We routinely ordered trachea to be used as filler. Maybe your brother worked at the one processing plant in the United States that doesn't use the by-products of animals. Or you are full of shit. BTW, the animal shit gets into the processing line, too, along with plastic and crap the workers drop in accidentally.
