Hey racist, let me correct you again. I am sure you forgot this part of her quote :

    "They're our next-door neighbours"

However the quote is not what we are making fun of, we as proud liberals. It is the context she said it in. Acting like being able to see Russia, makes you qualified to deal with issues involving russia.

If you think so, then I guess you think people in Louisiana who could see the oil dripping from the tanker are qualified to plug it since they can see it also.

Is there anything I do not have to prove you wrong on? You are welcome!

    Contain China from doing what?
  6. booybob2 Got The Gay

The Chinese want to be perceived as the dominate power in Asia, They want to be seen as in control of the seas, the shipping lane, the islands around Vietnam, The Philippines, all resources in The South China Sea, etc etc etc..
They want to take our place in Asia, they feel its theirs.
They want the Pacific and will not contest us in the Atlantic.

Why can't Republicans be honest and come out and just say it? They'd like to bomb the rest of the world, and pretty much everyone else who doesn't think like them, because when you have people who think differently, things tend to change over time, and being conservative is about things staying the same. So anyone who thinks differently is a danger to your belief.

    Its that simple.

I am guessing that you don't know anything about the South China Sea dispute, but I have researched it. China has a strong claim to those islands. Anyway, it's not an issue that involves the United States. As for control of the seas and shipping lanes, what exactly does China want to do that conflicts with the interests of the United States and the neighboring countries? In case you haven't noticed, China is highly dependent on international trade, so they would never have any reason to close those shipping lanes. China is the most populous and most ancient civilization in the world; they have the right to peaceful development in pursuit of greatness. The United States should cooperate with China, not try to thwart its rise out of paranoia which is not based on historical evidence. Our real interests actually align on almost every issue. As John Quincy Adams said, the United States should not go abroad searching for monsters to destroy.

AUSTRALIA cannot juggle its relationships with the United States and China indefinitely and must choose a ''godfather'' to protect it, according to a prominent Chinese defence strategist.
The warning by Song Xiaojun, a former senior officer of the People's Liberation Army, comes after Foreign Minister Bob Carr was told by his Chinese counterpart that Australia's close military alliance with the US was a throwback to the Cold War era.
Senator Carr yesterday met the man expected to become China's next premier, Li Keqiang, in Beijing. Discussions centred on more comfortable matters including furthering trade and investment and the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
But Australia's strategic position in the Asia-Pacific region remains contentious. "Australia has to find a godfather sooner or later," Mr Song told The Age.
"Australia always has to depend on somebody else, whether it is to be the 'son' of the US or 'son' of China," he said. "[It] depends on who is more powerful, and based on the strategic environment."
Mr Song said Australia depended on exporting iron ore to China "to feed itself", but had not done enough to engage. "Frankly, it has not done well politically," he said.
With sensitivity in the Asia-Pacific over Australia allowing the US a permanent troop presence in Darwin, Senator Carr has been keen to emphasise its strong record of military co-operation with China.
Speaking on Monday, he said Australia was one of just two countries with a strategic defence dialogue with China at the chief-of-defence level.
He said Australia was last year the first Western nation to co-operate with China on a joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise and in 2010 the first to hold a joint live-fire exercise with China's navy.
The HMAS Ballarat will moor in Shanghai tomorrow to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Both Mr Li and Senator Carr were keen to highlight the positives. The senator told Mr Li the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations was "an opportunity to renew and refresh and recommit to the relationship".
Mr Li said: "Forty years ago the two countries decided to establish diplomatic relations. This was a decision made with strategic perspective and laid the foundation for the furtherance of this bilateral relationship."

Does it hurt America if Australia has a stable relationship with China? You just accept Cold War era talking points without critically evaluating them. The notion that Australia's "strategic position in the Asia-Pacific region is contentious" only has meaning within a Cold War mindset. Australia's actual position on the map is fixed - it is relatively near China and has an immense amount of natural resources which China needs. That only hurts American interests if you believe that economics is a zero sum game, that if one country rises, another must fall. You would have to have a poor understanding of history to believe that. Economic cooperation is a positive sum game, conflict is zero sum at best, but usually negative sum.

The one "former senior officer" of the PLA who the article cites does seem to have a Cold War mindset, although one that is much milder than that of Mitt Romney or the typical American politician, but that is hardly indicative of actual Chinese policy and long-term strategic vision.
