Im very curious to know what the projected ratings are for the show. I always figured it hovered around the 8 million mark. Has there been any reports or anything put out saying what they are?

Only ten million people have Sirius or Best of Sirius on XM so 8 million is a total joke, more receivers are off at any given moment than are active. The only published ratings were from Arbitron in 2007 which indicated 1.2 million cumulative listeners per week for the show. Stern and Buchwald used a figure of three million in some press releases before signing the new contract but they showed no sources so were probably exaggerations

Arbitron's first public ratings for Sirius and XM -

Howard Stern is #1 on Sirius - his "Howard Stern 100" is the only channel there to break 1 million in cume, with over 1.2 million listeners, and an average quarter hour audience of 96,700. The "Howard Stern 101" channel is #2 in cume (502,000) and AQH (30,700). But Sirius' "New Country" channel 60 does 455,9000 in cume. Arbitron's basing these first-ever 12+ satellite radio listening estimates on the Spring 2007 book, and it shows that XM's reaching more people, overall, than Sirius. XM has a cume of 10,332,990, and Sirius is at 6,595,000. The XM listening is more evenly distributed than the Howard Stern-starring Sirius lineup. Just one XM channel breaks 1 million in cume, and it plays the hits - the "Top 20 on 20" channel. Country is also doing well on XM: "Willie's Place" does 437,000 cume and 24,900 AQH. One way to view those cumes - 10.3 million for XM, 6.6 million for Sirius - is against the 230 million or so listeners to over-the-air AM and FM radio. But today's release from Arbitron is the first time the public has seen the channel-by-channel audience for satellite radio.

    2 million.

That's about 30 million dollars per month, 360 million per year, 1.8 billion in 5 years...

I don't dispute that Howard brings in more than his contract pays out but assuming $15 a month for a subscription is too high. First you have to take out all his listeners that bought lifetime subs, they bring in $0 in revenue per month. Then you have to factor in the people who have multiple subs and get the discount down to $8 for the second sub and finally all the people that go in for special offers. My last subscription was two years for $200. When you factor all that in I'd say the average Stern sub is probably worth $10-11 a month or $240-260 million a year.

Gary recently said on the wrap up show that Sirius doesn't share the ratings with the channels. Sirius can tell how many receivers are listening, and how many through the app, but don't share the info so the talent can't use the ratings to argue for more money.

based on howard's failed tweeter attempt to prove he had a million listeners that would follow him immediately. He most likely has around 75,000-100,000 that regularly listen and that number is dropping.

21 million subscribers, around 11 million (Sirius + XM Premier), Mel said a couple of weeks ago that H100 is the most-listened-to channel.
    SFN math: 100k listeners.

And if you believe against all known scientific fact that Sirius has any way of telling that a receiver with no transmission cababilities whatsoever is even powered up let a alone abel to tell what channel its on then you are dumber than the arrogant WUS monkey.

'Most-listened-to channel' could be 2 listeners if everyone else has 1.

In any event, the key is what this last contract $ number was, which I believe no one has made public beyond 'less money for less work'. I think Sirius knows EXACTLY how many listeners Howard has per day. Mel wouldn't pay him a penny above and beyond that amount, so Howard cut down on the schedule significantly enough to blur the line of decreasing listeners.

Never post again. I'm being completely serious.

Could you please take your best guess and describe how this could possibly work?

I can confirm what Uncesored said. I have the full arbitron report on my computer.

Howard has(had) 1.7 million listeners a week. It's probably the most listened to show on satellite radio as in actual time spent listening.

But there were other channels with more listeners in the morning. Sirius Hits 1 was one them.

Uncensored's quote from the 2007 book is 100% correct.

My guess is Howard doesn't brag about his ratings anymore because they've only gone down since 2007.

Howard used to live for being number 1 in the ratings... including the 2007 Sirius ratings that showed him on top.

Since then, not a peep. Not to mention the fact that he's never mentioned his Letterman ratings during his last 2-3 appearances... and those I know he lost to Leno and Nightline.

Howard doesn't like to admit that he's not King shit anymore.

Let's see what AGT does for his Sirius audience. Who knows, he may be bragging about his ratings again soon, but for some reason, I doubt it.

To help guesstimate listeners just look to the quality of sponsors and the add rates charged

once AGT actually starts, do ya'all think the show will change even more -- trying to attract even more of an audience, although COMPLETELY different??

This was a big eye opener, he tried for a while to not have anything to do with Twitter, saying what is there to report on the show twitter feed because people are listening anyways, yadda yadda yadda. Then he signs up, gets verified, and talks about it on his show, and when the numbers come out and he can't even break 100,000, even after promising pics of his hot wife, he can't do it. His numbers might go up after AGT starts but it will never be what it was when he was on free radio. The other point made is how he doesn't talk about winning the ratings when he was on Letterman anymore, being beat by nightline is an embarrasment. I'm surprised Vinny didn't call in and slant it that they won in the 18-24 year old bracket for the first 1/2 hour blah blah blah. Oh Debbie!!!!! restless restless
