I heard they are making a third Fast and the Furious movie. Is there anything else that needs to be said? Until then, I will continue living my life a 1/4 mile at a time. :grrr:

Concession prices are high because that is where the theater makes most of its money. Each film that a theater shows is based on a certain percentage . Like say "Deuce Biggalo 2 " is offered at a 60/40 split ( Studio gets 60 percent of the weeks gross and the theater gets 40 percent . as the weeks go by the percentage drops slightly for the studio and rises for the theater (depending on how well the film performs .
Heres where the studios get greedy ......The last Star Wars flick , opening weekend fox/lucas got 100 % of the gross and the theaters had to fall back on consessions to make a profit (which im sure they did) but heres the real kicker... if you were running a single screen theater and wanted to play episode 3 you were forced into holding the film for 4 WEEKS ! and your 4th week would only be a 80/20 split !! no if's and's or but's . That would mean that you would miss out on the bigger films coming out after that, and worst of all lose alot of money in that timeframe . Being that most films drop 40-50 % after the first weekend . So its not just the fact that hollywood sucks its the all too real fact that its all about that first weekend and who cares if its entertaing .

Im co-owner of a drive in theater and we proudly said Fuck You to Lucas and his greedy tendencies .

Wow. I miss drive-ins. Our only one we had closed long ago. I think they are going the way of the Dodo aren't they? Atleast here on the left coast they are.

Truth is-there isn't really a slump. If yo'ure comparing it to last year-then yes. When a movie like Mel Gibson's 'For the Love of Christ' comes out-tons of people that NEVER, or rarely go to the movies, will go and see it. And see it again, and again and again. Kind of like Titanic, except now it's the religious nuts that think they're a better Christian for seeing it.
But all in all, it' snot like there's any big slump, plus it has been proven, for many years now, that it's better to slap a piece of shit together, get lots of promotion and have a good, #1 first week, so that DVD sales are in place-which seems to be what they're focusing on more now.

If I owned a theater that was showing Star Wars under those conditions, I would have kicked the pimply faced teenagers out of the box office and worked it myself, ringing up half of the Star Wars ticket sales under one of the shitty movies that had been out for a while .:)

As long as there are dumb teenagers going to see dumb movies every weekend, there will always be lots of dumb movies to service them. It is easy money for the studios.

DVD's are out in months after the release.

Also the trend of REMAKING everything is awful. Remaking TV Shows & Great Old Movies...

An Original Thought in Hollywood is golden & hard to find.

Couldn't agree more. And there was a time when you could count on people like the Coen Brothers. But then they made Ladykillers. And a pale, hollow remake it was as well.

Well The Diamond State Drive in Theater in located in Felton, Delaware we are open friday saturday and sunday and always show a double feature .
Admission is $7.00 for adults children under 12 are $4.00 each
We always show 2 first run films (brand new ) Like now we were showing Dukes of hazzard and The Wedding crashers . Saturdays are almost always sold out before showtime .

If you are on the east coast check out the website at www.dsdit.com

Cool thing is that in the fall when daylight savings time hits we usually run a triple feature for the same price ...3 movies for $7.00. All first run !! the first show starts at 5:30 and the last movie is over by midnight.

Labor day weekend we should have a dusk to dawn show 5 movies for $7.00

And every Halloween we run a triple feature where we have shown real classic horror films like the original Texas chainsaw massacre, The Hills have eyes , The original Night of the living dead , and hopefully this year we will be able to get ALL 3 EVIL DEAD FILMS AS ONE SHOW .

If your in the area look us up .

What about the 3 hours of coming attractions and ads before the movie starts?

    Dear Hollywood:
Stop bragging to us middle class whooores who have to WORK for our money that your movie "Only made $150 million this weekend." You'll get no sympathy from us.

Stop doing shady business dealings where a movie like Forest Gump made "ZERO DOLLARS" because of shady accounting practices with off-shore fake companies that put Enron to shame.

Your outspoken actor's politics also piss people off. Yes Bush is an asshole, but we don't need socialist elites telling us to drive a Prius and embrace anti-Americanism and pay more taxes, while they continue to dodge theirs.

Let the FREE market determine ticket prices. If you're losing money and movie tickets cost $10. Don't raise it to $13. Simple supply and demand economics will show you that at $10 many people would rather wait 3 months for the movie to come out on DVD and rent it for $3. While lowering the tickets to $6 will cause more than double the people to go see more moves!

Again.... $7.00 for two movies !!!!! C'mon out and see us !!

Yeah I was in the mood to see the Incredibles again the other day. & checked the DVD at a few stores to see if it was a decent price to buy. Brand new some places still want upwards of 22 - 26.00 bucks for that damn movie.

I just rented it & then reslized it's a cool flick, but not worth buying at all.

    ad length

Some theater chains are putting in an effort to limit the amount of ads before the films. Most companies have the scheduled start time of the film be the actual time that the movie previews begin. Trying to get all commercial ads over by the start time. Then on opening movies you may get six to eight movie trailers before the film begins.

These ads are not going away as it is an enormous amount of income that the theaters receive. Even if you don't like them, you still have product placements in almost all movies nowadays. Is that any different than a commercial?

I'd like to make a point that if you find a local theater that you really enjoy attending, make an effort to inform that theaters management of it. They take a lot of crap from people, some justified. Let them know you appreciate a quality theater.
