You have to keep a population dumb if you want to keep them voting against their own best interests.

To all those in this forum who consider themselves "thinking" Republicans, what do you think the company you keep says about you?

I KNOW that providing students with a curriculum so rudimentary that everyone eventually gets an "A" serves only the stupid. It also provides a false understanding of what fair and equal mean to their graduates that serves no one. I take that back. It serves a political party that wants an electorate - so dim witted - that they will cheerfully surrender their God given Freedom and Liberty to a government that wants only to rule and enslave them while pretending they want to protect and serve them.

What does any of that have to do with the Texas GOP's declared opposition to critical thinking skills (which may enable them to question beliefs imposed on them by their parents and other authorities)?

This thread kinda sucks but the larger point here is essentially the little game most republicans play where they insult their own intelligence, live in a fantasy world where they pretend to ignore the giant elephant in the room which in their case is the fact that their party is in complete and total control by the religious extremist lunatic taliban middle ages whack job anti-science wing of humanity.

There is alot of good the Republican party could do for our economy if there wasn't a manifest destiny religious agenda. It just makes them wacky.

I didn't read the article you posted as I assumed it was likely liberal tripe. The public school system indoctrinates, it does not educate. If an individual it taught to read, to write and to grasp mathematics, very little else is required. I am not of the opinion that a bunch of simpleton union do-nothings stuffing children's brains with secular humanist, shades-of-gray, horse shit and calling it "critical-thinking" will do much to prepare them to compete in the - Black and White - real world.

Kinda odd the more liberal posters jumped right on it as if it were the gospel.

Facts are not important to a liberal.

I was thinking about this and where it came from so I googled it and the first page was all blogs, I did a quick CNN search and didn't find it...doesn't mean it isn't true but I didn't find any mention in a very quick search.

My point is, IMO a few republicans probably brought this up in their local school district but thereis nothing to suggest this is an across the board " republican" position.

I went on a rant a few days ago over grouping all liberals together over the actions of a few.....so in this case my bad. You're right, without a more detailed article that isn't a blog, we can't know for sure what the deal is.

Here is a link to the apparent 2012 platform for the Texas GOP. Education ideas begin on p. 11 of the document (p. 20 of the .pdf file).
