The kid are some of my earliest memories. One of my earliest memories was my dad's party he had for game 6 of the 86 world series, and seeing the ball go thru Buckner's legs. For the Jets, this offseason has been about fixing all that went wrong in 2011. It's a long list that was punctuated by wide receiver Santonio Holmes quitting on his teammates during the Week 17 loss to the Dolphins that effectively ended any chance New York had of sneaking into the playoffs. Instead, they ended with an 8-8 record and a locker room full of issues.

Ryan has since pledged to fix all this, although we're not sure how adding the Tim Tebow media circus will help.

On Tuesday, Revis, during an appearance on SportsCenter, provided a status update in the form of a word association game. For the phrase: "locker room," Revis responsed: "Disarray right now."

So in Revis' mind -- and despite Ryan's promise to rectify the problems that derailed New York's 2011 season -- nothing's changed.

"There were a lot of things going on with guys wanting the ball," Revis said via ESPNNewYork.com's Jane McManus. "When it's like that and you're losing, it gets a little bit more frustrating, that's all.

"People were just trying to find ways to win. Santonio [Holmes] wanted the ball. It wasn't negative, I think he wanted to be the guy who wins games for us. And then it blew up out of proportion and then it was Santonio is not siding with Mark, and it just blew out of proportion. And then [then-offensive coordinator Brian] Schotteheimer was in the mix of it too with the play-calling."

Sanchez and Holmes have since made up ("A bigger deal was made about it than it needed to be -- we've kind of laughed that off," Sanchez said earlier this month) although CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco is skeptical that next season will be much different than 2011.

Revis, meanwhile, has a ton of respect for Tebow. He also thinks that Tebow is exactly what Sanchez needs.

"I think [Tebow will] have a big impact on [Sanchez] in terms of just trying to maybe push him a little bit more," the cornerback said. "Not to say that Mark needs to get pushed, but in a way that, you know, Tebow is a winning quarterback. Mark is a winning quarterback, too; you got to understand that Mark took us to two AFC Championship Games."

Here's the problem: When Sanchez struggles next season (and he will -- not because he's Sanchez but because all QBs struggle), public opinion will be firmly behind Tebow to replace him. And for all that's virtuous about Tebow, don't expect him to stand up and proclaim that "Mark is the starting quarterback and I'm not interested in answering questions about me taking over that role." It didn't happen in Denver and Kyle Orton was shown the bench and eventually the door. The Jets have assured and reassured us that Sanchez is their guy so maybe there's nothing to worry about. But Broncos coach John Fox made similar comments about Orton last summer.

For his part, Revis understands that Sanchez will be under intense scrutiny and wants to dispel the rumors that the Jets' quarterback is anything but vigilant in his preparation.

"I know Mark personally," he said, "and he's there. We're there sometimes at 7 p.m. -- two hours after work -- in the cold tubs and the hot tubs and he's going over his playbooks, so I know Mark works hard. That's no question about it."

Training camp is four months off. We'll no doubt here countless stories about Sanchez and Tebow until then. And at some point during the season, we'll almost certainly hear that the former should be benched for latter. For an organization looking to "fix" the locker room, this seems like the exact wrong way to go about it.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis, who made headlines in March when he called Bill Belichick a "jerk" in an ESPN interview, explained his comments Thursday -- and possibly inflamed the situation even more.

Revis, who made his original remark during a word-association game, said he called out the New England Patriots' coach because he felt Belichick had made "ignorant" and "disrespectful" comments about the Jets.

"They told me to sum him up in one word and I gave my honest opinion," Revis told reporters in the Jets' locker room, adding, "I feel that people let him slide when he says smart remarks on certain things."

Revis said he respects Belichick because "winning is winning." But he quickly added, "When you say certain comments about the Jets, some things are disrespectful. It's OK to have a rivalry, it's OK to compete. But when it gets personal, then it gets disrespectful.

"I didn't start this battle," Revis continued. "It's just the smart comments he says. It's ignorant. It's ignorant (toward) this organization."

Belichick, who served as the Jets' defensive coordinator from 1997 to 1999 before resigning when he was to succeed Bill Parcells as the head coach, is notoriously tight-lipped. But he made a vulgar remark about the Jets after beating them last Nov. 13, 37-16, at Met Life Stadium.

Walking off the field, Belichick put his arm around his son and, according to the New York Post, told him, "Thirty-seven points on the best defense in the league. Suck my d---."

The next day, in an interview with WFAN, Belichick didn't deny the comment.

"Any conservations I had privately, I'll keep private," he said.

It infuriated Revis.

"It's ignorant. Why go there?" he asked. "You won, fair and square. Hey, we shook your hand after the game. But when you start saying stuff like that, it gets too personal."

The Jets and Patriots have a long history of trash talking. After upsetting the Patriots in the 2010 AFC divisional playoffs, Jets linebacker Bart Scott delivered his celebrated "Can't Wait!" rant in a post-game interview with ESPN, claiming the Patriots under-estimated the Jets' defense.

Leading into that game, Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie made vulgar comments about quarterback Tom Brady, whose on-the-field behavior has irked the Jets for years.

So when Revis appeared in the ESPN studios in March, accompanied by Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, he fired off the "jerk" response. Sitting next to Revis, Gronkowski was taken aback.

Two months later, Revis offered no apology.

"He can take it anyway he wants," he said of Belichick. "Even if he says something back, I'm not going to get into jawing with him."

Revis was less descriptive when commenting on his contract situation. After hinting in a recent interview that he might stage a training-camp holdout, the All-Pro cornerback backed off slightly.

"Yeah, I'm cool (with my current contract)," said Revis, due to make $13.5 million over the final two years of his contract. "I signed it two years ago. I'm not unhappy about nothing."

Revis missed training camp in 2010 because of an acrimonious holdout. He wound up signing a four-year, $46 million contract, which amounted to a one-year extension on his rookie contract.

Jets D-line coach Karl Dunbar said the team plans to play a lot of the 46 defense this year. It'll be nice to see LaRon Landry play in a scheme which his skills are Taylor made for.

The Jets need a defense right now. I am not sold.

I am not basing anything on preseason, but this Jets team looks like a 6-7 win team at the very best this year unless Tebow is like Bugs Bunny. I see nowhere that the Jets improved this offseason.

I will take the win because the Jets need it. Their schedule the next few weeks is brutal and might win 1 of them. The offense was surprisingly good today, but I think that might have more to do with how bad the Bills are. The Jets against the run was not so great.

Playing in Pittsburgh is going to be very tough and the Jets have won their once.
