I chalk that up to bad coaching. The guy should at least be able to get on the field every game in some capacity.

Rex Ryan is almost as heavy as Mangino. He needs to drop 100 pounds or so

    Sounds like Al Davis. :jj:

And not the Hall of Fame Al Davis from the 70's and 80's...crazy 21st Century Al Davis

And I like how he compared Suggs to Gholston, saying Suggs was also considered a "bust" until Ryan turned him into an All-Pro. Somebody should remind Ryan that Suggs had 12 Sacks his rookie year...Gholston had 5 tackles this season.

The Jets had to become more aggressive on defense. In NYC, the reaction to his press conference is very positive.
Fans were watching a pass prevent defense that let QB's like Shaun Hill and Chad Pennington have all day to throw.

the Jets will "officially" miss the playoffs again next year, especially is Farve comes back

I agree. But you can't do things if you don't have the personel. And they can't make any big splashes in FA becuase they are already over the cap.

I just hate when new coaches come in with all this big talk about how "tough" the team is now going to be. Tom Cable did the same thing earlier this season with Oakland.

I remember when Rick Pitino came to the Celtics saying that they are going to be an agressive, swarming defensive team. He used the same stupid analogies and I wanted to throw up. Ditka said all this shit when he went to New Orleans as well. But you need to have the right players otherwise it's just hot air and will actually make the team turn against you. I could be wrong and Ryan may work out, but I see an absolute nightmare coming for Jet fans. The media, on the other hand, is gonna love this big mouth.

The only guy on your list I would have wanted was Marty. I think I would have stopped watching football if we hired Fassel, I wouldn't have gone crazy w/ Billick or Gruden but Billick won b/c of great D's coached by Lewis, Nolan and Ryan.

I like what I know of Ryan, I like the PC but we'll see how it translates on the field. Of the coordinators I like Ryan the best so I am happy w/ the choice.

We have alot of talent on D, maybe not Ravens talent but we have alot of talent. Jenkins, Harris, Pace, Rhodes, Revis. That's a nice core right there.

As a Jet fan one thing I know about is coaching chnages and we'll here in August how great Ryan is compared to Mangini and we'll here all the promises but none of it matters unless they win.

For me I really preferred a coach that has experience. The Jets have gone the assistant route the past few times: Groh, Edwards, Mangini, and now Ryan. The guys that I mentioned at least won or got to a Super Bowl, which none of the past 4 head coaches, that the Jets hired(including Ryan).

It is hard not to like Ryan. Some of his quotes from the press conference was great. It is nice that he is confident. His father was that way as a head coach and he was not a great head coach.

The bottom line is no matter was Ryan says means nothing. We need to see how many wins the Jets will have, if they make the playoffs, and how far they go in those playoffs.

I think that anyone that thinks Ryan will be a disaster or a success does not really know right now. We shall see!

I wanted Cowher or Marty, the other guys I didn't want. When it became clear we weren't getting Cowher or marty I preferred Rex.

-Gruden hasn't done a great job in Tampa since inheriting that win now team and winning in 2002, they only made the playoffs twice and lost both games at home.

-Billick won a SB thanks to that D which he had nothing to do w/. he had years to develop a QB, to get that O going and never could do it. His last playoff win was 2001.

-Shanahan has won ONE playoff game since John Elway retired. ONE in 10 years.

-Fassell was a terrible HC, I know he led the Giants to a SB but the NFC in 2000 was quite possibly the worst year ever for a conference ans that Giant team may have been the worst SB team ever. They also nearly got shutout if not for a KR TD. His teams consistently choked and he led 2 of the worst chokes in the histpry of postseason w/ their home loss to Minnesota in the 1997 WC game and the loss at SF in the '02 WC game. Fassell is known for his speech in 200 where he guaranteed they'd make the playoffs. He made thet "bold" guarantee w/ the follwoing remaining schedule:

    at 3-13 Arizona
    at 8-8 Wash
vs. Pitt(who was 5-6 at the time but finished 9-7, this was the only quality win)
    at 5-11 Dallas
    vs. 7-9 Jax

Good points!! I just wanted a guy that was established. The Jets have gone the assistant route the last 4 times including Ryan. I just don't know even if he talks a good game that Ryan will be successful. I will give him that he does have a good sense of humor, but that does not translate to wins.

Woody Johnson was on with Kay and Francesa yesterday.

I found it odd that he did not want to talk to Cowher. He said that he did not think Cowher was interested in the job. Why would Cowher want to talk to him if he was not into the job? Johnson said it is not his job to convince anyone to take the job.

You know George Steinbrenner often convinces someone with money and other tactics to join the Yankees.

Johnson's other quote and I will paraphrase. He said that they were busy in preparing their new stadium and that they are now prepared to win. Johnson said that quote came out the wrong way, but still how dumb is that???

Backs up my point. Franchises that win have good owners. Just like any other succesful business. It starts at the top.

Johnson is a shit owner and thats why the Jets will never win while he is running the team.

Fucking guy is more focused on the stadium then winning games

I agree his comments had me scratching my head.

I don't think Johnson is a shit owner. The Jets have had a lot of winning seasons and non losing seasons with him as an owner.

I could be wrong, but they have not had more winning seasons than losing ones since Johnson has owned the team.

Have the Jets been disappointing? Of course, but to say his teams have not won is a little off.

Maybe Rex Ryan can help, but nobody knows right now.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: *****The New Official New York Jets Thread*****

I am annoyed at Woody but let's look at some facts. Woody took over in 2000 and we have made the postseason 4 times since then and had winning records in 6 seasons. Only one other decade did we make the postseason as many as 4 times and we never had 6 winning records in a decade so the team has been alot better under Woody than people think. The Bidwells now have a SB team, the Irsays won a SB 2 years ago and have had one of the most successful teams this decade.

    A big bump!!!!

What is the deal with this Favre crap? Tannenbaum told him he can take his time, but the Jets are denying it?

Favre make a god damn decision will you please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jets are over the cap # also..
  18. StumpMerrill Full Member

Not over the cap anymore. This was the best solution for the Jets, hopefully Brett doesn't change his mind and screw us.

I agree, great solution. I'm sure your favorite qb " the real deal" will take you to the promise land.

What team wouldn't wan him?

It is obvious the Jets are going to build their team on defense. That is how Baltimore did it. Could they be like Baltimore in a few years? Who knows?

It will be interesting to see what the Jets do as far as quarterbacks goes. I think Leftwich should be an option.

The one thing that has been seen in the league is some of the back ups turned into decent QB's IE: Collins and Warner.
  21. WhatRUSaying Full Member

A big bump for the signing of Bart Scott!!! A good signing and losing Coles takes off some good cash. The Jets defense got better!

Now the Jets need a quarterback and some receivers.
  22. scotsalemfan Full Member

And the Jets resigned Brandon Moore. It was a good day for them
  23. nuge67 Full Member

Huge day for the Jets. As far as I know, there is no GREAT QB out there right now, unless they pull off a trade. Jets had one of the best running games in the NFL and we will have to obviously keep that up. Our D has to get better and more aggresive and it looks like we are heading that way! Should be a great year!!
  24. Case a Beer Full Member

What QB could you possibly trade for? There's hardly teams that have one good one, let alone one to trade away. And without Lewis and Suggs, Scott won't be all that.

Maybe Vernon Gholston can play Qb, God knows he isn't an NFL linebacker.
