The NHL Thread

This is a good point. The Pens were putting up tons of goals through the first three rounds and now they only have one goal per game. That says something about the Wings defense - and I don't just mean the Wings' defensemen, everyone is contributing to the defense.
  2. WhatRUSaying Full Member

The Wings don't have the best players in the league. They have the best team and that says a lot about them. They play all ends of the ice.

That is why one skilled offensive guy can't dominate if the other team has a great defense.

    They say defense always wins.

Fleury has let in some bad goals too. Osgood has not. That is the difference in this series so far.

The Pens are going to have to solve Osgood to get back in this one.

Penguins attendance before Crosby was drafted? I'll say again: DEAD FUCKING LAST in the NHL. Your superstars left and your fanbase disappeared. And people call DC fans fickle, but what does this say about Pittsburgh fans?? I thought you guys were supposed to be a sports town?? Nah, guess not. Just a bunch of mullet-wearing, towel-waving bandwagoners.

    exactly. look at the Pirates.

You're right....I seem to get baited by trolls...attempts to debate with reason are futile. I will just enjoy the rest of the series, win or lose, and be proud of my team regardless.
  6. WhatRUSaying Full Member

Exactly!! I don't understand why people go to a messageboard and act like such asses. The acts get boring.

I have no problem debating someone that actually has a thought and not a bias towards a particular team or player. It gets very old very quickly when someones opinion is based on hatred and not facts. BOOORRRRIIIINNNNGGG!

The Pens have been a great story. A team that almost lost it's franchise several times. Thanks to Mario Lemieux and guys like Malkin and Crosby that have reconnected the fans of The Burgh with exciting hockey.

Pens fans will not need to rest their heads in shame if they happen to lose again. You got to give credit to the Wings.

I would like to see some passion tomorrow night for the team wearing black!

I just came on here with a point of view and plenty of hockey knowledge. No one here has debated me on the facts except JasonS. This board is dominated by Pens fans who don't want to hear the truth, that's all.

Although I agree about Fleury WRUS, I am also a firm believer that you will not beat the Wings by scoreing only one goal a game either. Were most of Fleurys goals given up bad? Yes I would say in game 1 there were two and in game 3 there was the 3rd goal, but the fact is you aint gonna beat the Wings 1-0. They need to capitalize on there chances offensivly. A goal and 3 posts just dont cut it!
  10. Anus Full Member

Malkin is a big +1 in these playoffs despite having the scoring lead.

Crosby is a +11, only 1 better than Ovechkin even after the sweep vs. Carolina. I thought he was supposed to be the awesome two-way player?

    Bruins re-sign Krejci

PITTSBURGH -- Bruins forward David Krejci, slated to be a restricted free agent this offseason, won't be going anywhere. Krejci has signed a three-year extension.

"A lot of people thought he had a coming-out party," said Peter Chiarelli, in town for the GM meetings. "But we've seen him progress. You've seen him progress. You've seen him get stronger. The non-offensive part of his game has improved greatly. We had a few key guys to sign, so we're happy to get it done."

Krejci established a career high in games, goals, assists, and points this season with 22-51--73 totals in 82 games. His 51 assists ranked second on the team behind Marc Savard, and he led the NHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-36.

In 2009, Krejci also received the Bruins Seventh Player Award, given to the player who performs above and beyond expectations.

The native of Sternberk, Czech Republic, was selected by the Bruins in the second round (63d overall) in the 2004 draft.

In his three-year NHL career, Krejci has 28-72--100 totals in 144 regular season games.

Krejci, who is slated to have hip surgery on Thursday, has told Chiarelli he wants to be ready for the 2009-10 season opener. Krejci appeared in 11 playoff games despite the injury, compiling two goals and six assists.

"I think he's going to be, at very least, a No. 2 center," said Chiarelli. "His game has really grown. He's a very proud guy who has really, consciously made an effort to get better without the puck. I just love the fact that he gets mad when he gets beaten in battles. He's only going to improve."

By signing for three years, Krejci could set himself up for a big-time payday on his third contract. By then, the economy could improve and the cap could go up.

NBC only wants game 5 because it's a weekend game.
  16. WhatRUSaying Full Member

I don't get locked into sports radio too much, but Francesa was discussing this today, which is rare. That guy hates hockey; that is obvious.

A caller brought up that there is some consideration that the Indians could build a casino on or near the Belmont Park grounds. I wonder if that would be a possible place to have a home for the Islanders? The only problem is I think part of that area is Queens and part is Nassau Country.

At least there was some talk today; no we have to see if there is any action out of these talks.

Very good point. If Anus talked about hockey without some anti-penguin thought I would actually respect him more. Everyone of his posts claims that the Penguins are getting away with more than the other team. A couple nights ago the Wings got away with some stuff and the fucker does not bring it up.

I respect just about everyone in this thread except him. Even if he was anti-wings I would not like it either.

Anus is like his user name. His name stinks and so does his opinions!!!! :D

Enough about that we have a huge game tonight. The Pens need to come out tough tonight, get a lead, and hold it. This Wings team is too good. I almost think the Pens should get in Osgood's face just to rattle him. However, he is easily not rattled.

    Wings/Pens 8pm Versus and CBC

Mike: The networks in America always get 5 of the possible 7 games that are played in the finals. The cable outlet always gets 2. You are right NBC did prefer the weekend games because of the first week of Conan.
  18. WhatRUSaying Full Member

Ervin: I did not disagree with you at all. See post # 36893. I hope the Pens can get a win with you in the building tonight. The Pirates are playing at home for tonights game and Thursdays game against the Mets. I expect the attendance numbers to be low at the Pirates stadium.

    Koivu's future appears in limbo
    Source: TheFourthPeriod.com

With a new head coach in Montreal, Canadiens GM Bob Gainey can shift his focus to revamping his roster for the 2009-10 season.
Yesterday, the Habs hired veteran bench boss Jacques Martin to take over the squad on the ice. Gainey and his staff will now turn their attention to their impending unrestricted free agents.

Top tier players Saku Koivu, Alex Tanguay, Mike Komisarek, Alex Kovalev and Robert Lang can all become UFAs July 1.

It's believed the Canadiens are interested in keeping Tanguay, while sources have told TFP that Komisarek will likely test the free agent waters, leaving the futures of Koivu, Kovalev and Lang up in the air.

The Canadiens are not expected to re-sign Lang, and various reports suggest the Habs will try to bring back only one of Koivu or Kovalev, both of whom have expressed their desire to stay in Montreal.

Gainey is expected to speak with Kovalev and his agent, Scott Greenspun, in the next week or two, and Koivu's agent, Don Baizley, told TFP "there are no new developments" to report.

    Baizley would not comment further.

Drafted 21st overall by the Canadiens in 1993, Koivu has spent his entire NHL career with the Habs. The native of Turku, Finland has compiled 50 or more points in each of the last six seasons, and recorded a career-high 75 points in 2006-07.

This Pens team is unbelieveable. They blow leads all the time. The Pens have to play 60 minutes. One lapse and Detroit ties it.

    1-1!
