It was a text book knee to knee from Orpik. It was 100% intentional. There is no doubt he absolutely meant to do it as Stepan was blowing past him.

The first thing you learn as a D man is to travel in the same direction as the forward so he can't blow past you. Orpik is coming at him to make a big hit at the blue and got caught with his pants down so he did the only thing he could to take Derek out of the play.
How you can't tell Orpik leaps at Derek is beyond me. Again, this is a text book lesson in how to deliver a knee to knee. Not sure what the heck you mean that Derek somehow cause this. If anything he is tucking his right leg in as he sees what Orpik is about to do.

Orpik has a long history of cheap shit and this is nothing new. Let's not forget he came withing inches of paralyzing Eric Cole with his dirty hit from behind into the boards nearly ending his career.


I could pull clip after clip after clip after clip of all the dirty shit Brooks pulls on a routine basis.

For obvious reasons I hope the Flyers absolutely pound the living shit out of the pens and half of them need to be carted off the ice. The Pens deserve everything bad coming their way. They have a rep a mile wide.

I watched it on that little video, after I saw it on my TV, on a bigger screen, I see what you are saying. It was a bullshit hit. The only reason I said what I said was because Orpik was hardly moving and I couldn't tell that he moved his leg. When I watched it on my TV I could see him move his leg out in order to make contact with Stepan. My bad.

If Orpik did that to a guy on the Devils I would be pissed too. It's a meaningless game with a few minutes left and Orpik goes out of position and tries to make a big hit on some kid. It's a dick move.

Torts should've dressed Scott last night just in case the Pens did something stupid like they did. I'm hoping the Devils dress Boulton and Janssen tomorrow against the Sens as a pre game warning for anyone on the Sens that wants to pull an "Orpik."

I have to root for the Pens, I can't take the Flyers and their asshole coach and team full of divers and thugs.

NHL announced no suspension or fine for Orpik.

In his post practice press conference today, Sidney Crosby said this about John Tortorella calling him a whiner...

"I don't know what he's talking about. I mean, if you want you can put a camera on us all game, put a camera on (Ryan Callahan) all game. You'll see who's over there more. He should worry about his own players."

So no discipline for Orpik for his dirty knee to knee hit, but Torts gets fined $20k for a negative opinion of the Pens? Jesus Christ, I've tried to keep a neutral opinion on the Pens and not think much of what Anus and Marty have said in the past but goddamn it's really hard not to believe that the NHL favors them.

For one of the first times, Sid seemed human. He spoke candidly about being a whiner in his first couple of seasons and stood up to that loudmouth Fonzi. In my opinion, Sidney became a man today.

He makes a point though. Why does Mario get to embarrass the league but Torts gets fined thousands of dollars when he spouts off??

I think the stars in every league get special treatment. The problem is the Pens have two of the biggest stars in the league and the NHL has bent over backwards for them. The rest of the league really resents it and Torts said what everyone else knows.

I asked it back then and I'll ask it again. If the Pens gave Crosby the same contract the Devils gave Kovy would the NHL have fined them millions and taken draft picks from them???

I'm still rooting for them to beat Philly though. The Flyers and their fans deserve nothing and a Pens-Rangers ECF would be must see TV.

I dont think the defense is there with the Coyotes. I think they may have benefitted froms some teams taking them lightly on occasion. I think the Coyotes are the weakest playoff team in the west.

You're right about the Devils / Kovy contract… Gary, the all-knowing Jew, got buthurt that teams found a loophole in his CBA and that contract was the straw that broke the camel's back.

There is talk that the league is trying to put a cap on second contracts in the new CBA. This will be really shitty for veterans, as teams will put them out to pasture earlier if they can load up with young guys at a fraction of the cost. I agree with the rookie cap, but think it would be bullshit to have players that really are the stars of the league under a cap.

The teams I like in the West are obviously Vancouver, St Louis and Detroit. I might, MIGHT even say Nashville if Rinne turns it on in the playoffs. I don't care for Emery/Crawford for Chicago and Niemi is just not good. I can't even support him right now. I've seen too many crappy goals let in. And Clowe denying he didn't touch the puck... I'm so ashamed.

I think St. Louis' lack of playoff experience may mean an early exit. Hitchcock and Arnott may end up butting heads at the first sign of adversity.

Nice win for NJ today. Stephen Gionta gets his first NHL goal and it's the game winner. He was the 1st star.

Devils break the record for PK% in the post expansion era.

Huge Bust with 2 goals. He finishes with 37 goals and 46 assists. He'll finish 4th in the NHL in points per game. I really hope ALC picks the Devils to lose every round because he is just so wrong about everything he writes.

I didn't even realize Mario was a "rule maker" since he only blesses us with his presence on certain occasions. I'm pretty sure Lou is closer to Bettman and does more for the NHL than Mario yet he gets bitch slapped.

I think Torts is a hot headed Italian with a temper and sometimes he has to just explode and get it out of his system. I don't think he wanted attention, I think he was genuinely pissed off about Orpik taking out Stepan in a meaningless game and he spouted off. When he does that, it's his true feelings coming out. We got to see how he really feels about the Pens and I can't say I disagree with everything he said.

Gary needed to make an example out of a team and a player and the Devils put it out there for him on a silver platter. If the Pens gave that contract to Crosby, Gary would've given one more warning to not do it again before handing out a harsh penalty.
