Well, just reading and watching stuff on Sissons now. Seems like a pretty decent prospect. 6' 0" and named Captain for his WHL team at 17.

From the looks of it, can play Center and Right Wing.

It doesn't look like he's projected in the top 10 and Lou and Conte are being realistic about who will be available late.

This has to help a team on the verge of bankruptcy:

NEWARK — The Devils poured close to a quarter-million beers since the Stanley Cup playoffs began.

They sold 22,925 hot dogs and 16,388 pretzels. At Saturday night’s game alone, the Prudential Center’s Acela Club moved 54 pounds of alligator steak.

It’s been a good spring for the Devils and the Prudential Center they call home. And while Monday night’s loss to the L.A. Kings dashed the hopes of thousands of fans, the Stanley Cup Finals brought $32.3 million in additional revenue to Devils’ coffers, according to a Star-Ledger analysis of playoff revenue.

For a team fending off bankruptcy with each slapshot, the money could not have come at a better time.

    -------------
The biggest chunk of playoff money came from ticket sales to the 11 sold-out home games. The Devils sold $26.2 million in tickets during the postseason, according to the review. Concessions brought in another big piece with the Devils selling $3.75 million in sundries. Sponsors kicked in $1.1 million to the Devils’ bottom line during playoffs. Devils merchandise also gave the team an influx of about $1 million worth of jerseys, T-shirts and hats.

The Wild are saying that they are gonna be throwing tons of cash at Parise to get him to sign. Enough to become an owner in the future.

I heard that theory of Aikman hating the Giants too, which I think is unfair. I think Giants fans think that because Aikman was quoted saying he would take Romo over Eli Manning, which is obviously moronic.

I watched Flyers broadcasts on that were shown on Sportschannel America back in the day and he was partered with Emrick. I really did not see him that bias there either. Yeah they both talked about Flyers promotions, but that is natural to do on a local broadcast.

I really thought Emrick did a great job and always has done. I don't know enough broadcasters that are even close to Emrick's league.

I just read the thing about Parise. I will give him credit by saying that he does not want to be a Ranger. That takes some guts when he is going to have a nice pay day. They had a poll on TSN showing if Parise would remain a Devil and right now about 42% think he will be in NJ next year.

Where is this ALC award for coming in 2nd coming from and what is the meaning of it? :D

Yeah you gotta play all 4 rounds to have a chance to win it. That is like a hockey team taking off the 3rd period.

Those odds are so stupid to show it now. The draft and free agency has not even started. I mean who really cares!!!

No defense for you. You weasled out of your 4th round pick. There is no giving up in The NHL Thread Annual Playoff Picks!!

I picked the Devils in every series with the exception of the Cup. I was only wrong with the Kings against the Canucks.

The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with veteran forward Jim Slater on a three-year, $4.8 Million contract.
The 29-year-old forward played in a career high 78 games with the Jets last season, scoring 13 goals and eight assists and also picking up 42 penalty minutes. The 21 points were a career high for Slater.
The Lapeer, Michigan native was originally selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Slater was nominated for the 2011-12 NHL Foundation Award, the 2011-12 King Clancy Memorial Award and the 2011-12 Bill Masterton Trophy.
He has spent his entire career with the Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets franchise.

I hate when Aikman does Giants games. Aikman does the same thing Eddie O was doing during the Finals. When the Kings went up 3-0 in game 6 Eddie O kept saying what the Kings have to do to hold the lead and all he talked about was how good the Kings are playing not once taking the Devils point of view. Fucking annoying as hell and it's the reason I try not to pay attention to announcers all the time.

Aikman always takes the point of view of the team the Giants are playing while constantly praising the opposing team. Assholes like Aikman and Eddie O are so dumb that they probably don't even know they are doing it.

I thought Kenny Albert and his partner handled the Devils games really well in the playoffs and he's a Rangers guy. Guys like Sam Rosen, JD, Doc, and all the Alberts are professionals during national telecasts and they can put that homerism shit aside. That's why they are working in NY in the first place. A guy like Jack Edwards or Steiggy could never work NY sports or national broadcasts. Aikman is a dumb country boy who fucking stinks at his job.

If Zach goes to Minn then he clearly doesn't care about winning because that team is a long way off from doing anything in the Western Conference. The Devils will offer him a huge deal too and so will Detroit and so will LA. We'll see what happens this summer.
  10. Lou Lamoriello Full Member

The Wild claim no one is gonna top their offer. I can't wait to see the offers Parise gets. If he stays with the Devils I don't think it's gonna be long term. Only a few years. When Brodeur leaves who knows what goalie the Devils will have. I don't think Parise will wanna hang out for those years.
  11. MartyBrodeur30 Full Member

If Parise is worrying about Brodeur then he'll probably leave NJ because Brodeur has 1 maybe 2 more years left and that's being generous. Parise is in his prime and this is chance to cash in on a long term big money deal, I doubt he puts that on hold for another year especially with the chance of getting injured and never cashing in. He either has to trust that Lou can get a decent goalie in here after Brodeur or he has to play elsewhere....just my opinion.

Ugh. I can't believe the Wild are even in the mix. Sure, it might be fun to see Parise on a line with Koivu since Heatley plays LW and probably wouldn't play with Parise.

Wild, I think, still haven't signed Josh Harding and Backstrom is good, but injury prone (as is Harding). And Matt Hackett and Kuemper have yet to prove themselves as reliable goalies.

And the Defensive corp is nothing to write home about either. What a waste if Parise goes to Minnesota.

Man, such a good deal for a below average hockey player. He gets 1.6 a year just to play hockey. No pressure. He can just play and bring in 500K after taxes, agent, etc. Good job Slater.
  14. mikesbandit Full Member

Yeah.............. but he has to live in Winnipeg.

 If I could make 400K-500K after taxes for 3 years straight, I'd live in Winnipeg. Wait, nevermind.

I hope hockey players take finance classes.

 It looks like her, but I don't think it is. Most of the blonde's in L.A. look the same anyway.

I think Phil Pritchard and Craig Campbell spend most of their time sterilizing the Cup after each player is done with it. There's probably so much nasty shit that's been done to it.

"Hey, I spent a grueling amount of time trying to win this thing so I think I'll take a shit in it for fun. And then the next guy will take a drink from it."

Tampa acquired Anders Lindback from the Predators......... doesn't look like they will be making a play for Luongo now.
