Starting to think he just wants attention and will end up back in Pheonix anyway.
  2. mikesbandit Full Member

maybe, if he has given up on the thought of winning a cup and just wants to live on his ranch down there with the family and collect a big cheque playing for the Coyotes. Some guys (like say Selane) are ok with that; other guys really get horny on the competition.

Well since Selanne has a Cup already, he's happy collecting a paycheck and playing one more season with the guys.

Alfredsson seems hell bent on trying to make a run for it this season.

Everything goes through Lou but Brent wasn't thrilled the Euros while he treated the Canadian and American players like gold. He wanted nothing to do with Elias as Captain and since he was just named coach and the Devils were finally looking for some stability in their coach, Brent was getting whatever he wanted.

I think wearing the "C" is a little overrated but Elias was fine as Captain and Langenbrunner was a grumpy cunt that caused problems. Langenbrunner was not captain material....just another one of Brent's long line of mistakes.

Selanne rejected a trade to NJ in 2003, the year the Devils won the Cup, and chose to stay on a non playoff SJ team. I don't think he cared about winning a Cup even before he won one.

His rejecting a trade to NJ had nothing to do with his love of Anaheim since he was a SJ Shark at the time and would sign the following year in Colorado. What kind of guy would pass up a chance at playoff hockey for a few months?
  6. WhatRUSaying Full Member

I agree in the long term Kovy should be the captain because he will be a Devil for a long time unless he demands a trade. I guess part of me thinks a guy of Elias stature, being that he has been with the club forever should get the chance.

Having said all this Kovy will probably get it and would be surprised if either him or Elias didn't get the C. Zajac is worthy too IMHO, but probably won't get it.

I guess one thing you can say about Teemu even after all the teams he went to he loves being a Duck and loves living in Southern California. Earlier in his career after his first stint with the Ducks I could see he wanted money and wanted to follow Kariya in Colorado.

He is pretty content in playing in Anaheim. I remember reading reports that he was considering going to the Jets because that is where he started. He was cheered nice and loud in that building.

In hindsite the Devils and Ducks have both won one cup since 2003, so you can't say he made the wrong decision.

    Some Canucks are not homophobes!!!

    TSN.ca

Vancouver Canucks forward Manny Malhotra will march in the Vancouver 2012 pride parade on Sunday.
Malhotra will be joined by Philadelphia Flyers scout Patrick Burke and march with players from the Vancouver Cutting Edges, billed as the only gay hockey club in Western Canada.

The Canucks' centre is the third professional hockey player to participate in Pride events this year under the You Can Play banner.

Tommy Wingels of the San Jose Sharks and Vincent LoVerde, of the Ontario Reign, marched in Chicago on June 24.

Malhotra joins Canucks teammates Ryan Kesler, and Daniel and Henrik Sedin in lending his name and efforts to You Can Play, an organization dedicated to eliminating homophobia in sports.

"It's paramount that equality in sport, and beyond, becomes the norm," Malhotra said Wednesday.

"Everybody has the right to play the game they love," he added.

"I am excited to share this message of equality and show my support this Sunday."

Burke appeared in the debut You Can Play public service announcement in March with his father, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke.

Burke noted that Vancouver has "a wonderful LGBT community and a passionate hockey community."

"We are thrilled to see the Canucks working to bring those two groups closer together," Burke said.

"Having a well-respected warrior in Manny stand up along with Henrik, Daniel, Ryan, and dozens of other NHLers around the League gives hope to young LGBT hockey players everywhere," he said.

The Burkes took part in Toronto's Pride Parade last month.

Elias could be captain but he's 36 years old now and is a UFA at the end of the year and may not be back, same for Zajac. The Devils need consistency with their captain and head coach, DeBoer and Kovy are the perfect pair.

I sometimes don't understand the "I will never play for an Eastern Conference team" mentality but it seems like some guys are set on that. Maybe Selanne is one of those guys. When he and Kariya went to Colorado, I think they THOUGHT they had a good chance to win a Cup given the success of the team... but we all know how that went to crap.

It was good to have him in San Jose, but I never felt he was that piece that would take the Sharks to Stanley Cup glory. Shit, he didn't even stick around that long.

He obviously got lucky in Anaheim. Of course, with the Samueli's taking over and the changes that club went through, that helped out too.

So... I see your guys' points.

It's just sad to see a guy who is talented like Doan settle for lots of money to stay on the ranch in the desert.

Funny hearing Doc call these water polo games.

    He Scarrrrrrrrrrrs!!!

Didn't realize Elias is a UFA at the end of next season. I still think the Devils need to send a good message to their fans in trying to keep him as a Devil for his whole career if possible. Letting Parise go probably does not sit well for most Devils fans at this point.

As good as the Devils have been they have not kept their coaches for too long, so not sure DeBoer is with them for a long time. Maybe what he did last year can help his cause in staying a while.

How will this Russian do in joining the NHL?

    TSN.ca

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defenceman Dmitry Korobov to a two-year, two-way contract the team announced Thursday.
The 23-year-old played for Minsk Dynamo of the KHL last season. He had one goal and 11 points in 39 games and led the team with a plus-12. He was also fifth among Minsk defensemen in average ice time with 18:52 per game.
In his three-year, 82 game career with Minsk he has recorded two goals and 20 points with 46 penalty minutes.
The six-foot-six, 205-pound Korobov played for Belarus at this year's IIHF World Championships and led his country in average ice time. He has represented his home nation at each of the previous three IIHF World Championships, recording two goals and eight points.
He also played in the 2007 World Junior Championships as well as the 2006 World Under-18 Championships.

I haven't watched any of the Olympics. Sometimes I glance at The Today Show when I am at the gym, but that is about it. I just can't relate or get into most of these sports. I guess I could watch the soccer or the tennis. I enjoyed European Handball when I was a kid, but never watched it on TV.

Good news for the Isles for a change.

    TSN.ca

The New York Islanders signed first-round pick Griffin Reinhart to a three-year, entry-level contract Thursday.
The 6-foot-4, 202-pound defenceman was selected fourth overall in the June draft. He had 12 goals and 24 assists in 58 games last season for the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Hockey League.

Devils didn't "let Parise go", they offered him over $80 mill to stay and he said if Suter chose Detroit he was going back to NJ. Devils don't have a huge fan base but they have smart fans. They know exactly why Niedermayer left and they know why Parise left they don't need "messages". They just want to win and after last year they are feeling good about this franchise.

Elias is 36 going on 37 so if he left it wouldn't cripple the franchise like it did when Niedermayer left but, much like Marty, it would be nice if he finished his career as a Devil. Zajac is the guy they have to get locked up long term.

Devils have had bad luck with coaches and that's pretty much all it really is...Julien lost the team and got fired, Burns got cancer, Larry Robinson had a nervous breakdown, and Sutter got homesick and wanted to join his bro in Calgary. DeBoer will be in NJ for a while.

Rumors have the Canucks possibly signing Jason Arnott if the Doan Sweepstakes don't work out. WTF?? Arnott is a fucking Cancer in the room and does not have what it takes to keep up anymore; these better just be rumors.

One way or another, the Vancouver Canucks appear determined to add a skilled veteran presence to their core of forwards for 2012-13.
The most coveted free agent on the NHL market, Shane Doan, dined with the Canucks’ brass on Tuesday night, according to multiple reports.
Though his agent, Terry Bross, has been busy fielding calls from various teams and updating the media on Doan’s availability, the Phoenix Coyotes captain has maintained that his preference is to remain in Arizona.
In addition to the Canucks, Doan has visited with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers this off-season.
A reported 16 teams have expressed interest in Doan. Six of them, including the Canucks, are said to have made formal offers. Last week, the Vancouver Province suggested that a team would have to commit to at least a four-year contract to land the 35-year-old.
As a possible Plan B to their bid for Doan, the Canucks have opened discussions with veteran centre Jason Arnott, reports the Vancouver Sun.
The 37-year-old Arnott is an unrestricted free agent who earned $2.5 million last season with the St. Louis Blues. He scored 17 goals and added 17 assists in 72 games.
Jason’s agent and brother, Wade Arnott, confirmed Wednesday to the Sun's Brad Ziemer that the two sides have had talks regarding Arnott becoming the Canucks' third-line centre.
"There seems to be some mutual interest,” Wade Arnott told the newspaper. "He played lower in the lineup (in St. Louis) and still produced at a pretty good rate."
Arnott described the discussions as preliminary and said nothing is imminent.
In 1,244 NHL games, Arnott has 417 goals and 938 points. He famously scored the 2000 Stanley Cup-winning goal for the New Jersey Devils in double-overtime of Game 6.

Arnott and Doan should not be mentioned in the same sentence

If Doan goes anywhere outside of Pheonix it will probably be on the west coast. I am guessing Van or LA.

Here are your Vegas odds for next season.
    http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/e...odds-penguins-still-favorites-rangers-move-up

    Pittsburgh Penguins 8/1
    New York Rangers 9/1
    Vancouver Canucks 11/1
    Los Angeles Kings 12/1
    Philadelphia Flyers 13/1
    Chicago Blackhawks 14/1
    Detroit Red Wings 15/1
    Boston Bruins 16/1
    St. Louis Blues 16/1
    Minnesota Wild 18/1
    San Jose Sharks 20/1
    Buffalo Sabres 22/1
    Carolina Hurricanes 22/1
    Nashville Predators 25/1
    Tampa Bay Lightning 25/1
    Washington Capitals 25/1
    New Jersey Devils 28/1
    Edmonton Oilers 30/1
    Toronto Maple Leafs 35/1
    Florida Panthers 40/1
    Anaheim Ducks 40/1
    Colorado Avalanche 40/1
    Montreal Canadiens 40/1
    Ottawa Senators 40/1
    Phoenix Coyotes 40/1
    Calgary Flames 50/1
    Dallas Stars 50/1
    Winnipeg Jets 50/1
    New York Islanders 75/1
    Columbus Blue Jackets 100/1

25/1 for Caps...Just a few years back I think it was 7/1? Times have changed...McPhee's done dick to fix things.

NJ's too low, MIN's too high, MON's too high, PHX is too low depending on what Doan does, and IMO LA is still the team to beat, although I'd put PIT and NYR in the top 5 too.

I'm trying to figure out if I should trade Brent Burns for Dan Boyle in a dynasty fantasy hockey league.

Sure, Burns is younger, but it would be nice to make a move that could get me to the playoffs this year.

Geez, everyone just thinks Parise/Suter = Championship. So much more needs to happen to that team to make them contenders.

Jon Quick was one of the best goalies last season. Backstrom/Harding/Hackett ... I don't see Stanley Cup winning goaltending.
  25. Anus Full Member

Yeah, Wild weren't anywhere close last year. Parise and Suter are just 2 players...plus I'm still skeptical of Suter really excelling without Weber as his D partner. They have some decent prospects coming up but they're probably a couple of years away.
