Sorry to disappoint your belief seeking worldview. I simply don't see the world that way. I don't base on beliefs.

I think there are things we can't know so far (maybe ever)... and I make it a point to not fill in the gaps with belief, because if we can't know, we're just as apt to be wrong as we are to be right if we try to make up shit. I think religions are made up shit. :p

I'd guess that you'd say... that not believing when it's so obvious that there is something to believe in. This act if not believing is an act if faith in and of itself?

    Err... "admitting defeat buddy"?

Anyone interested in a long-winded 'Colin Powell' alternative to the typical arguing?
No? Then just ignore the following:

These discussions tend towards one person ridiculing another's beliefs.
I had this mindset for a long time.

Can we agree that nature, which includes us, is an amazing display of continuous, creative, intelligent design? Is creativity only something that appears to arise from nothing? A melody, the design of new mechanical device, a new way to visualize an artistic rendering using light, is all of this something from seemingly nothing?

Our best science can not begin to explain for example, why simple molecules like hydrogen and carbon can, under the right conditions, form organic molecules. We can explain the mechanism of the bonds and actions at the quantum level, even to the point of being able to predict other forms that may arise, but not the origin of the design. This does not reveal the mystery of life.

We can't explain why the cosmos did not remain just arrangements of matter in the form of gases, planets, stars, dark energy, etc. Why did it change, evolve, transform, so that tiny building blocks of life came into existence? What are the creative connecting dots along the path that leads to the double-helix of DNA? This is a gap of understanding. The elemental forces that Einstein and other physicists have studied offer no answers for it's creation. The Miller–Urey experiment of 1952 yielded amazing results, but no "why" as to what happened. An intelligent yet 'blind' manipulation of nature.

We can offer no explanation of what preceded the first creative onset of even simple organic matter, of it's higher ordered state, of it representing a non-randomized building block of what will later become life. No why, no insight into the design, no understanding of the vital information that is represents, that will be added to the formation of more complex building blocks. Some complex organic matter not only has to have certain elements, but also particular shapes in order to begin to function. What arranges the shapes and why? Did the design exist a priori, or the information it has? At best, we only can construct a mechanical description or workable approximation. Our efforts have resulted in some detailed, precise sub-atomic rendering tools with some predictive capabilities but these tools are devoid of a big-picture understanding of Creation.

What is it about the Universe that makes it possible for a human mind to grasp this, puzzle over it, manipulate it with tools of mathematical precision and yet, have it's origins remain a complete mystery?

Einstein wanted to know God's mind by understanding the observable, mathematically represented forces of nature and produce a unified theory of said forces. What does this effort on the part of conscious beings represent? What is consciousness? How does the universe "know" a way to create creatures with brains? Since single-celled life successfully thrived in the primitive oceans of the earth, why did it change later to plants, animals, mammals, and humans?

This is not to suddenly argue that a bearded father figure must exist in heaven and that he sends his prophets to earth as messengers to guide us, rather this is instead an attempt to step out of the artificial, linear, limited black-and-white, religious, non-religious arguments which do not inform, inspire nor change minds. Anyone who is really curious must at the very least, acknowledge how creative and intelligent nature is and that the ability to experience and think about this with our brains is the result of Creation, otherwise, nothing exists.

My present view centers on energy itself. Energy is fundamental and is equated with matter (E=MC^2) along with all else which follows. The existence of energy also precedes any definition of time according to our best science models thus far (be it Big Bang, Multi-verse, etc), though its 'modulation' establishes space-time. Science has worked for centuries with the concept of energy and yet, it's existence is no more explainable than life itself. Energy is the source and driver of creation. For me, it is the Meta-mind, in human terms, conceptually infinite, which resists any attempt to define it outside of any conceptual box that is separate from life and, by definition, all attempts to frame it within any window of time that can be conceived of are nonsensical. Not coincidentally, this parallels many beliefs about God, but it is in my thoughts, free of our typical tendencies of anthropomorphism and endless fruitless arguments.
