Martin's girlfriend was reportedly on the phone and heard Martin ask, "Why are you following me?" and Zimmerman respond, "What are you doing here?"

    100.00% wrong

his "father's fiancee" doesn't live in that same neighborhood meaning he was on some sort of short-cut, however, like I said, we don't know exactly because it's never been reported

You should inform these people and the hundreds of other articles that they are wrong.

"Martin was visiting his father's fiancee, who lived in the gated community in Sanford, a racially mixed northern suburb of Orlando."

Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community. Trayvon was visiting his father's fiancée, who lived there.

Glad you cleared this up. I've been wondering about whether this was his father's neighborhood or someone else he knew.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but my purpose was to point out the wave of media hysteria over this murder and how they've made this a 'civil rights' and 'profiling' issue. Now that at least one witness has come forward to say that Martin was beating the crap out of Zimmerman, it appears Al and Jesse are wrong again. It also pisses me off that Obama had to weigh in on this, as though he doesn't have more important things to do?

I'm not sure the cops would have showed up in time. I think he might have been shot regardless.

Sorry dude, a 17 year old kid who weighs a 150 lbs is not knocking out a grown man who weighs over 200lbs (rare exceptions)

You come out of the closet yet? Those are Zimmerman's "facts"

Like I said, I just think Obama commented because its a national story and this is an election year, it's really not that much different when Clinton commented about the Columbine shootings. Obama's got alot to prove, not just with Republicans but the American people, his next 4 years ride in our hands so he's just trying to relate to people's anger and frustration with the justice system. Course this was before the news of his past that makes Treyvon look like a criminal, honestly things like this I think he should just not comment about because NO matter what he says he's going to piss off someone. In this case it's conservatives who think he's racially dividing the country, which to me is a bit of a stretch, but thats what they do; turn nothing into something.

What I don't get about this whole case (from the amount of information I've heard about it) is if this would have been such a clear case of either a racially-inspired shooting or the case of an over-zealous neighborhood watch captain who gunned down a kid who was new to the community then why didn't they charge the guy after they interviewed him? If Zimmerman's story is to be believed by the authorities (that Martin decked him and then started wailing on him while he was on the ground) then there would be obvious evidence of that (fresh bruises and cuts on Zimmerman's face and elsewhere). So if they took pictures of Zimmerman when he was at the police station (can't imagine they didn't) then that evidence will hold up. Everything else is a one-sided story given the fact that the other party was shot dead.

Agreed. It sounds like Zimmerman was in a hurry to shoot this kid before the cops got there, as evidenced by the fact that he did not remain at the mailboxes where the police said they would meet him, he told the police to call him so that he could give them his exact location, indicating that he was on the move, and the murder scene turned out to be nowhere near the mailboxes.

The lead investigator wanted to press charges.

Exactly. It was a political calculation.

It's been obvious for years that Obama's advisors are clueless.
  23. Reverend Tyler Full Member

Why did the 3 Republican candidates also comment on it? Gingrich and Santorum going even further than Obama? All Obama said, when questioned, was that there was an investigation pending. He didn't say Zimmerman should be arrested or make any comments on Florida's Wild West laws.
  24. Jackie's Career Full Member

The only Republican candidate that matters released a vanilla statement about following the rule of law. That's smart politics. He didn't try to personalize it and tie himself to the story like Obama did.

He did say "my heart goes out to the Martin family"...not much different than what Obama said.

Have a link for that? I haven't seen any reports like that.
