I would agree with you that someone may be playing CYA but its not really up to police whether to charge zimmerman or not. The DA has the final say whether he gets booked for murder unless the cops actually witness it.

It appears a less-than-robust investigation was performed and with a dead person the result of this encounter, that is not acceptable.

The police did drug and alcohol testing on Trayvon but not Zimmerman, no forensic, trajectory , or ballistic test of any kind. I think the cops dropped the ball here.

The supervisor on the scene would be responsible for that. And I do agree, it appears they really didn't do an in depth investigation. I've heard nothing of an autopsy report either.

And zimmerman should absolutely have been tested. They should have drawn blood.

And where are the signs of a broken nose? There is no blood on the front of his shirt or on his face. The story about his head being smashed into the sidewalk has smelled fishy from the first I heard it. That video confirms in my mind that he had no visible injuries on the front or back of his head nor signs of a scuffle on his clothing. Any injuries that would require medical attention the next day should be clearly visible.

Mark just do you know I am not against the use of deadly force and I think laws in some states should be changed to give people more opportunity to protect themselves. In Massachusetts you can be criminally charged for killing an intruder which I think is completly unfair and does more to protect intruders than it does home owners.

I thought the same thing when I saw him on Lawrence O'Donnell last night. They did a good job of grilling him and getting him to admit that he didn't know George all that well.

Yeah, this endless speculation is getting old. I'm sure there is a boatload of political wrangling over this in the background along with the fact checking. I'll be glad when this one is put to bed.

Good to know and as I posted, I do have issues with zimmerman getting out of car and following Martin. It is akin to acting as a law-enforcement agent and while that be legal if you acting as a neighborhood watch in Florida, the fact that he was carrying concealed is somewhat troublesome because he was inserting himself in a situation where the potential for him to use his weapon was high.

Legal and moral questions are why do we readily allow unarmed neighborhood watches and have no problem with that when they very well may be following suspicious people and calling them into the police, yet an armed citizen is not allowed to patrol his or her neighborhood?

And what good is a neighborhood watch if you don't get out on the street and walk your neighborhood? Looking out a window is only so effective but to what lengths are citizens allowed to go to defend their families and homes?

People being charged for defending their home in Mass or Chicago or DC are just wrong and that's where castle laws have helped clear things up but it does appear to me the Florida law goes to far and seemingly grants police power to CCW permit holders who do not the initial training or any required ongoing training to be doing what zimmerman did and that is follow who they deemed dangerous and/or suspicious people because the end result may be the mess we have now.

Solutions? Better training and continued training required for CCW holders? Training and registration for neighborhood watch people?
I don't know how you avoid a situation like we have without disarming law-abiding people and inadvertently making it easier for predators to prey upon innocent people. Tough calls to make.

Do you have any sources to his racial make up? Obama's father was from Africa. We know this. Best I can find is that his mom was of Peruvian descent. His dad was Bob Zimmerman. I think the "white Hispanic" is either to explain the disparity between the name and the perceived ethnicity, or blatantly racist against Hispanics. But it is stupid, regardless.
