I'm pretty sure that we can just draw the battle lines for civil war right down the middle of this controversy and I will happily stand on the side of defending the unarmed teenager that was shot. I don't really care what the other circumstances were... don't care about what he was wearing, don't care what was said, don't care about his facebook profile. At the end of the day, a person that is supposed to be someone of authority and responsibility (see: restraint) shot and killed an unarmed person. This man should ride the lightning. Meanwhile, the fact that he wasn't even charged with anything proves how fucked up things are with the police in this country.

I don't want to add to the ruckus, but you must be a Mayflower WASP if your people were never discriminated against. All other races and cultures were subject to some pretty awful bigotry, way before Twitter and Facebook. But the difference here is, they all managed to rise above their situations and not only assimilate, but thrive. Without having to convene a million anything to bemoan their station in life. I think what a lot of us are trying to say, with all due respect is, TURN THE PAGE. Start a positive future, and you'll see all this bullshit waft away in the coming generations.

While it's true that there are Zimmerman supporters and Martin supporters, I'm only searching for the truth. A lot of the outrage over this incident comes from the appearance, real or perceived, that the case was closed without a proper investigation.

Now that a lot more information is coming out, people disagree on the picture that it paints. But a lot of these discussions are, in my opinion, trial issues. Am I calling for Zimmerman's head? Hardly. Do I think there is sufficient probable cause to sustain some type of charge? Yes.

I don't think anything other than a conviction of Zimmerman will satisfy Martin's family, and that is to be expected really. But a whole lot of this outrage would never have happened if the investigation was handled differently.

To me, "stand your ground" is supposed to be your property.

What's everyone's speculation on why Zimmerman got out of the truck and the words exchanged?

Exactly...I know someone will swing in and claim "thats NOT what was said"..but the essential breakdown is 911 operator told him they didnt need him to follow Martin...at that point he should have left it alone. Yes, he had a "right" to keep following but ulitmately his ignorning what he was told lead to this situation. After he got off the phone, what happened that lead to his supposed ass whooping that was conviently on his way back to his vehicle? What was said and done during that time? Its entirely possible that his actions sent Martin into self defense. Sure, theres at least 1 witness that saw Martin on top whooping Zimmermans ass, but nobody wants to think about what Zimmerman did to have that happen.

Leave both of their past out of this. At that time, we dont know that Martin was "thugging" it up...we also dont know that Zimmerman wasnt in supercop freak mode looking to cause problems himself. When whoever it was with the police dept said manslaughter charges should be considered, and their opinion is overruled based on not enough evidence, you gotta thing strings are being pulled for this guy.

They're making it a race issue so it could be tried in federal court. I don't think that's going to hold water. The media latches on to controversy, so it leaves them with plenty of race-related topics to talk about for months. And with it being in the Orlando area, Nancy Grace can keep talking about the whereabouts of Casey Anthony and the Florida legal system.

Being that Zimmerman disregarded the 911 operator and didn't wait for a cop, and anyone with common sense would have, he should have been arrested for manslaughter until trial. All he had to do is ask the kid where he lived, he's neighborhood watch and would give him a ride to the house because it's dark and raining out. Then if he got a "fuck you" or ignored, should have just followed him to his house.

If someone's robbing homes, they sometimes go by themselves, but they'll do it in daylight, midweek, and scope the homes during the daytime. That's why you have to be careful about who you let in your house when you're getting repairs done or cable installed. Who the hell knows if the guy's a registered sex offender and he works for a satellite dish company.

Someone who does home invasion, they're usually not alone.
