Actually zimmie, I was supporting his post. The government needs a good excuse to buy more of those machines, elections are getting more and more and expensive.

A lot of bad and false premises are used in the guise of safety to erode liberty. Its a problem that's only getting worse and worse. Tends to be a liberal ideology with things like bicycle helmets but the conservatives take the reins when its "national security" or safety of authority figures.

Agreed. We are being rolled over by sociopathic fear mongers who want more power. This is how genocides begin.

It's all about living in a civilized society, J. The same society that feeds the poor, when some don't like it. Or let's you have guns when some don't like it. Or have a very minimal chance of being a law abiding citizen that gets wrongfully strip searched, when some don't like it. Strip raping I oppose completely.

BTW. The only way you could be threatened by me owning a firearm is if I illegally attack you, or you illegally attack me. Feeling threatened doesn't count.

I'd feel the same way if the Federal Government actually mandated States to perform these searches.
  7. NC-Stern-Mark Full Member

I was speaking in a broader sense but the government giving the OK to these searches is surely an open invitation to trouble.
  8. walygatr Full Member

The Federal Government, and I could be wrong, hasn't really done much in regards to how States conduct searches, other than when they started requiring women to be searched by women, in years. My understanding is this case was challenging a policy that had been in place for decades.

So its OK to get strip-searched for an unpaid traffic ticket ticket?
  10. walygatr Full Member

That would be up to the state you are in. Hopefully the legislature of that State is competent in setting the policies regarding how they deal with minor infractions. Being wrongfully stripped searched doesn't mean the State still can't be held liable. The States are responsible for the immediate safety of their citizens and I believe that decision is best left to the State and what their people are willing to accept as a result of who they elect to office.

Plenty of people that have been shot on accident that might disagree with you.

The SCOTUS just set the policy, the State is now relieved. So if your hot daughter, wife, mother gets pulled over and Officer Cletus wants to see her tits, off she goes!
  13. mambojambo Full Member

    Exactly.

They can pull any human being off the street now and do a cavity search on a bogus charge.

I'm very surprised that so many on the (supposedly 'pro freedom') right support this.

Then carry some knee-pads and keep a stiff upper lip.
  16. walygatr Full Member

Not legally, unless Officer Cletus is a Woman, and she's already seen their tits.
  17. NC-Stern-Mark Full Member

Yeah right, I'm sure they follow the rules exactly and won't even videotape it. :jj2:

When you find out who "they" are, maybe they hook you up.
  19. NC-Stern-Mark Full Member

    They?

Guys like this and they are even more common in the South, where cops make spit for salary...

I'm not in favor of strip searches Mark, I'm in favor of States considering what's best for their communities. Voters still get a say. Ten states already outlaw searches for minor offenses. More citizens should look at their state strip search policies and see if it is reasonable, if not lobby for change.
  21. NC-Stern-Mark Full Member

That is not the issue here, the issue is SCOTUS saying going ahead and check everyone's butt hole before they go to jail. That is the issue.
  22. walygatr Full Member

And that's the sound bite that sells fear. What it's really about is the Federal Government allowing States to conduct themselves in what they perceive to be security and safety issues as it concerns their employees and other inmates. If something happens to that employee the Federal Government does not incur the expense, the State does. When the Feds start talking mandated searches, then I'm with you. This, not so much.
  23. NC-Stern-Mark Full Member

The SCOTUS could have declared it unreasonable, as they SHOULD have, That is the issue.

You keep posting that, is that something you need to remember to do?

Let's say they went the other way on the decision, which by the way would have changed things from the way they're normally done, and said minor offense arrests searches are now unconstitutional. Every State would have to evaluate their safety protocols and develop programs to the increased risk. That might require arming previously unarmed prison personnel. Then when a prison employee or inmate is hurt due to an unsearched detainee, they would have to answer to the same Federal Government that prevented the search the first place. I won't even bring up the increased liability / expense from every scumbag on earth claiming they were "illegally" searched. Learn to look between the black and the white, there's a fuckload of gray.
