I just set up my 1st phonograph based stereo system since the eighties. My uncle died and left me his new in the box cheepo USB model. So, I had my old Carver MXR 150 receiver repaired at Carver audio services this last week. I set it up last night with some Klipsch Forte 2's. It sounds awesome!

What records do I need to have? So far the classical stuff sounds the best. I'm gonna go hunting for more tomorrow.

Dark Side Of The Moon. I Can't remember a better vinyl/headphone experience than that.

Vinyl/good components > digital fuckery all day long, punk.

Good idea. That should be an easy one to find. Those old records have dynamics that are missing in today's overly compressed digital formats.

I kept all of my old records, but it's a very small and narrow collection - my old kid stuff.

Man, I was at Chesapeake Bay for a wedding a few years ago. There was only one small hotel in this little town so we had to improvise because there were a lot of family in town. So one night I slept on my brother's boat. Another night we slept in this apartment over the garage at my brother's neighbor's house.

He had basically turned it into a man cave. He was a audiophile nut. He had this very expensive system in there. I think he said the turntable alone cost over $10,000. Since we were going to be sleeping there he had signs posted all over the racks saying "do not touch."

But while we were hanging out, he rolled a big joint and put on Dark Side of the Moon and I have never heard anything more awesome in my life. (And this from someone who grew up listening to vinyl LPs.)

I dl vinyl rips from avax + demonoid. It's amazing that some classic albums still haven't been given the treatment they deserve to sound their best. The recent Beatles remasters sound excellent. However, when I listened to The Beatles the other night, it nearly brought tears to my eyes because it sounded so great. For anyone that loves music and doesn't know, it really is a different kind of listening experience, and it isn't just nostalgia.

That sounds awesome. I have an old Fisher turntable that used to be part of my mothers stereo, I can't wait to clean it up and give it a home and use it. It just needs a cover because it used to be part of a rack system.

Check this out: Amazon sells vinyl now and even came up with new packaging to protect it for shipping:

Get the 1st Boston album on vinyl. I used to be a HUGE Boston fan many years ago and had it. Sounds very, very warm and significantly better on vinyl.

I used to sell audio gear and before CD used a granite block turntable with a Magnepan arm and a Sumiko Bluepoint Special cartridge. I've since sold 98% of my vinyl and haven't regretted it. Records = Work.

Didn't cost me anything... won virtually every piece of gear in sales contests or traded other gear for it via other sales people who were audio junkies.

It sounds like you're an audiophile who couldn't just buy a record player and enjoy it.
