Its like anything else. If you're a pizza maker you stop eating pizza.
When you work in a high end audio environment you no longer listen to a system... you evaluate it.
I can't tell you how much of the music I owned became work related just to sell gear. I had to get out of that world.

My love of listening to music had completely faded. I have wonderful old gear that I barely used for years because listening and selling gear was essentially work.

What do you mostly use now? CD's MP3's?

I really dislike MP3 - even at 320 the music doesn't sound its best... but the format rules for portability. Love it on the IPod... hate it on my system.

Give me CD for the most part. I do miss the "warmth" of vinyl and when I had some tube gear nothing could beat it... but again it felt like work after CD began to take hold in the market.

I'm excited that vinyl seems to slowly be popping up here and there in more places. It's getting easier to get.

Nothing sounds better on a good system. Although in the nineties CD as a format really had some life to it. Digital to audio conversion separates made great strides to find warmth from 1's and zeroes. Companies like Theta and Mark Levinson really understood what you could do with signal processing to give digital life. I love the sound of vinyl... just hate the hassle. I'm a lazy old man these days when it comes to music.

It really is nice to buy singles from iTunes when the rest of an album sucks too.

I guess I'm old school. Artists used to have the luxury to develop over time and really work their craft. Now everything is faster and you get a lesser quality product from those who release it and it seems that you no longer have to have musical ability or even a vision of what you're saying. Its become "finding the hook" and selling the single.

In addition I miss "cover art" (the iconic image of Houses of The Holy above makes this point) and the effort it took to really give the consumer an idea of what the music was about. Sorry... like I said, I pine for "the good ole days".

Same here. Bands like Tame Impala and White Denim make me think that's beginning to change though.

Gotta get going, hope you and your family have a good Easter.

Mp3's sound like shit. Uncompressed audio only for me. I love the way blu-ray sounds on my home theater system. It's really great. For instance The Grateful Dead Movie is outstanding as is Rolling Stones Shine a Light. Unfortunately, stereophonic music doesn't sound good to me on the home theater. I set up this system so I can enjoy listening to music again.

Tube pre's and amps really do sound amazing. My buddy has mcintosh gear that I envy. So smooth and warm!

I still purchase a few records a month. what's crazy right now is a lot releases coming out on cassette lately. A nice tube preamp does make the difference, especially when converting to digital.

    Enjoy the holiday Bro.

I sold Audio Research, Cary and Conrad Johnson - unreal sound from Audio Research. If I ever decide to go into vinyl again I'll track down a refurbished SP14

I got a Bang and Olufsen turntable like this for $80 back in 1989. Still works perfectly.

Ahhhh Linear... I sold B&O for a time but never this far back. Great product though. The only issue I ever had with their gear is that you could only use their cartridges with their products. Flexibility be damned.

I love that one too. Killer guitar tones and friction against the rhythm section.

Bring 'em over for a spin sometime. Was listening to RevCo and skinny puppy 12"s earlier. They sounded badass.

Hey the_apex I actually pulled off the side of the road to take this picture for you today. Only later did I realize it said "Apex and not "The Apex."

If a band released an album with a photo like that now there would child porn charges filed.
