Weird stuff that interests me.

In this thread, I'm going to post weird things I've read about or seen that interest me. My tastes run toward the prurient and violent. But sometimes, they're just weird.
If anyone else has something weird to post, I'd love to hear it.
Here's the first one, and it's distantly related to Howard:


The Death of Jane Dornacker
Jane Dornacker was a traffic reporter on WNBC, New York (Howard’s old station) who died live on the air when her traffic copter crashed.
Jane Dornacker was a singer, actress and comedienne out of San Francisco. She had a little success. She was the lead singer, songwriter and keyboard player for a group called “Leila and the Snakes.” She sang backup and toured with “The Tubes.” As an actress, she played Nurse Murch in the movie “The Right Stuff.”




By the mid-eighties, she was a New York traffic reporter, calling herself “Jane-in-the-plane.” She occasionally did traffic reports for Howard, and he bantered with her. On September 30, 1985, Howard was fired from NBC for “Conceptual differences.” A few months later, on April 18, 1986, Jane Dornacker’s traffic copter crashed into the Hackensack River. Dornacker and her pilot survived. They swam to shore.
About six months later, on October 22, 1986, Dornacker’s traffic copter crashed again while she was on the air. Joey Reynolds (Howard’s replacement) was the DJ at the time. At about the 45 second mark, Dornacker abruptly stops mid sentence. You can hear sound helicopter engine change to a high-pitched whine. Then you hear Dornacker frantically saying “Hit the water! Hit the water! Hit the water!”, the fear rising in her voice with each repetition. Finally, there is static and dead air. Joey Reynolds immediately segues to Huey Lewis’s “Hip to be Square.”



Dornacker’s helicopter had hit the top of a chain-link fence, tumbled into the Hudson River, and sank. Scuba divers pulled Dornacker and her pilot out of the river. Dornacker was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. The pilot survived after an operation and months or rehab.


The National Transportation Safety Board investigated, and concluded that faulty parts and improper repairs led to the crash. Dornacker’s orphaned daughter ( Dornacker’s husband had died a few months before Dornacker) received $325,000 in a settlement.

I saw the movie Bully several years ago and then had to read the book. Then I went online in an effort to discover any other information about the murderers. This was the last weird thing that interested me besides Nikkerz and AG.

I'm fascinated by both Casey Anthony and Scott Peterson. What kind of psycho can kill a loved one and continue to live-and enjoy-the fictitious lives that they created. Mind-boggling.

Thanks for your interest everyone! I have a list of stuff that interests me, and I'm going to continue to write about it. I'll read suggestions, but I doubt I'll take any. I suggest that if something interest you, do a little research and write about it. For example, I have no idea what any of the above are about (except for the shroud of Turin), but they seem more in the mystical vein. That's not my thing. I'm more about weird stuff that actually happened, and is kind of recent. But, hell, I'll read anything. I love this shit!

That Dorknocker story is very interesting but not very weird. I just remember her as the nurse in Right Stuff with the mustache. Didnt know about the Tubes thing.

The crew cabin broke away from the ship and started spinning rapidly. Analysis of the wreckage indicated the crew members had flipped cockpit switches in response to alarms that were sounding. The astronauts had also reset the shuttle's autopilot system, the report said.
"We have evidence from some of the switch positions that the crew was trying very hard to regain control. We're talking about a very brief time in a crisis situation," said NASA's deputy associate administrator, Wayne Hale.
But rapid depressurisation caused the Columbia crew to lose consciousness, and medical findings show that they could not have recovered, said the report, which took four years to compile.

I grew up in Harrisburg & I remember we were home from school that day. My grandma was watching the press conference so we saw him shoot himself live. I was 6 at the time so it was quite disturbing. As a Capricorn like Marilyn Manson & Edgar Allan Poe I tend to be morbid. I spend hours reading about serial killers & notorious murders. I am very intrigued by children who kill. I like to browse the crime library on the trutv website. I'm more interested in the psychology behind what drives people to do these horrific acts than the act itself.

...anyway (short form) a guy jogging on the beach where she is getting a tan asks the girl w/o arms and legs why she was crying and she says cuz shes a grown woman whos never even been hugged, so he hugs her. Next day shes crying, still, he asks what wrong and she says shes never been kissed so he kisses her. Next day , again, shes crying so he asks what is it NOW? She says Im a grown woman whos never been fucked. He picks her up, takes her to the water and throws her as far as he can into the waves and says.......now your fucked

Sure! It's not weird. A traffic reporter dies in a helicopter crash live, on the air. Happens every day!
