Don't be so xenophobic. Even those who come here illegally have children who grow up speaking English so assimilation is happening even without your post demanding it.

But to answer your first question:

Yes - many foreign countries pander to English speakers.

What is there without borders, language, culture?

    We are a nation divided.

This is a big right-wing propaganda plank, the ultimate tribal card, language...

True story. My mother went to kindergarten, couldn't speak a word of English, the principle of the school goes to the house and speaks to my grandmother about it. They NEVER speak another word in Italian ever again...

The result is my mother lost her mother-language and so did the following generations.

Lesson and Moral Of The Story? Its NORMAL for first generation immigrants to speak their native language, its nothing to be afraid of and unlike muslims in France and England, where second and third generation immigrants still do not speak the native language, this has thankfully not been the experience here.

I strongly support English being the Official language of our nation but I also don't mind reasonable accommodations for newcomers.

    Really dummy?
Name another non English speaking country where I can take the written part of a drivers license exam in English.

My mother had a similar experience. Came over here, was put into first grade. She had two choices, learn English or fail. She graduated high school with honors. Her parents also made the effort and both speak fluent English. While I agree that it is normal for first generation immigrants to speak in their native tongue, I do feel that there should be some sort of effort to learn even rudimentary English.

What, now drivers license tests are the measure stick?

To Booey: you can't dismiss English used worldwide as the universal language; that was never a qualification to your question. No matter how you slice it, many countries started 'pandering' to English speaking people long before it was universal.

My mom came over as a teenager from Cuba and didn't speak a word of english when they tossed her into high school (this was before any special programs or nonsense). She learned English by being immersed in it and watching Walter Cronkite and David Brinkley anchor the news every night.. and now she's a badass who rakes in six figures. If she had been encouraged not to learn english, and been put in special spanish-language classes instead of the general population in high school, she'd be a cashier at CVS or some other shit job. Of course, she still speaks Spanish plenty, you can't go anywhere in Miami without hearing Spanish being spoken, but she (like many Cubans) came here with the spirit of the old Irish/Italian/etc. immigrants whose desire was to become PART of this country, participate in it, and succeed in it... rather than many Mexicans whose highest aspiration seems to be to be a busboy or cut grass. There are Mexicans who valiantly break this mold and make something of themselves, but generally they just don't seem as... spirited or entrepreneurial (or maybe they're just far less educated) as other immigrant groups historically. We should lend them a hand by stopping this bending-over-backwards to accommodate their desire to stay ignorant of the language and culture they've immigrated to, and they will do much better in the long run.

It was an example dummy. You said the rest of the world panders to Americans. I used the driving test as an example. You understand now?

And after you try to wrap your thick skull around that, you can explain to everyone again how most people in Puerto Rico speak Spanish again.

    Dummy!

No wonder you're so arrogant. I grew up hanging around with a bunch of Cubans, you are all arrogant, in a good way, sort of. :sneaky:

Ah Jeez, not sure what your problem is... I replied to Booy, reread if you want. I said the rest of the world panders to English speakers, not Americans, 'tard.

Why don't you get an understanding of what I'm saying before you rabidly start typing.

The most interesting part of this is who liked it - usually people who admire the heavy handedness of government.

It is in the government's best interest in these times to keep people divided, have them not speak English, and continue to waste money printing every government document in many different languages. The dumber the government can keep people, the more government programs are needed and then the people will vote that way - usually for democrats who always promise more and more.

It would be so much better for the Country and for future generations for them to assimilate into American culture and learn the English language. Unless we have borders, language, culture, we do have a United Country.

Notice how obama likes to divide groups instead of bringing people together.

First, anyone that wants to live in this country and apply for citizenship ought to learn to speak English and ought to stop flying the Mexican flag just as those trailer trash tea baggers ought to stop flying the confederate flag. That is a helpful suggestion it is not a demonstration of sign of hate. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a liberal pussy.

Second, I love the hardworking hispanics that come to this country to earn a little money. I do not mind illegals who work; however, I think America ought to develop a plan that makes it easier for hispanics who wish to only stay here long enough to earn some money to send back home to do so legally.

Third, I hate those gang people and any of those drug cartels that hang around the border. I hate them not only for the trouble they cause here, but how nasty they are to the people who have to live in Mexico. They are foul wretches but is important to note that they are the bad guys, not the docile folks who just want to work. I would support our military dropping bombs on their compounds and killing them. Any of them that are caught here should be considered prisoners of war, tried in a military court, and taken out and shot. I'm tired of all this pussy shit of deporting them and having them recross the border within a few weeks.

Fourth, People love spanish broads that are hot. Send us more hot broads.

Finally, the South does not belong to Mexico or any other country other than the United States. Anyone who says otherwise is on equal footing with the rednecks who want to kick a hispanic out of their community who is working hard and contributing. Quit saying assholey things like that and maybe people will be more hospitable.

Democrats are only interested in attracting Spanish folks who are lazy and want to be on welfare. These are the folks who they can bus to the polls to vote for them so they can continue to tax the shit out of us and steal our money while just sending their supporters a few scraps. Some people may be afraid of those kind of spanish people, but only because we have enough home grown lazy pieces of shit already here and don't want anymore.

Any hispanic who wants to work, I can't understand the backlash. We need to infuse some more people with a work ethic into this country. Through years of social welfare programs we have subsidized the lazy and obese so that they are really the only poor people who reproduce thereby spreading their filthy genes. Now we have just the most worthless lazy pieces of garbage in the world. I would glady trade all those people for all the good honest hardworking hispanics who are tired of living under a corrupt government that does nothing to protect their way of life.

I lived in Northern NJ, there are many Cubans that make their home there and from what I have personally witnessed, you are a proud and hard working people who value God, Family and doing the right thing.
