I think I may have told you about this before, but my uncle was a POW in France, they were not mistreated. My Great Uncle was a POW of the Africa Corps, they were well treated. A friend of my father's was injured and "carried" to Russia, he did make it back. Part of that was they simply did not have anything themselves, no food.
