Who Will Romney Choose As A Running Mate?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Chrisfromvegas, Apr 12, 2012.

    Or who should he choose?

I say Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval. I didn't vote for him and didn't like him... at first. But he has proven himself capable in a state that was devastated by the recession. He held it together, and even found common ground with democrats.
And he is (Kind of) Hispanic which might help Romney gain some minority votes.

    Who else and why?

Off topic, and sorry if I already missed this discussion somewhere else...Is it a wrap that Obama is sticking with his guns with Biden?
  8. jtheweirdo Full Member

I don't think any official statements have been made. I'd assume a change like that wouldn't come out until the DNC Convention or at least very close to it. Biden has done a decent job of keeping his head down (for Biden - lol) so I doubt they are going to switch him out unless Obama is doing very poorly in the polls come closer to the convention.

Thanks, yeah there is still plenty of time until then. The way they're campaigning, and all the news coverage it seems alot closer sometimes.

    Not a chance. Pro-choice.

It will likely be Rob Portman.

I read an opinion article on why he should select Paul Ryan. When I read it, I agreed... plus I'd love to see a Ryan/Biden debate on any budget aspect. I would much rather see an Obama/Ryan debate but I'd take Ryan vs. anyone in the administration.

Here is the article I read the other day:

Sweet, make the whole campaign about whether we should end Medicare or not.

I'm guessing Rubio, but it will be an interesting choice.

Too much controversy in Wisconsin. Remember, he has to appeal to a wide range of voters and Ryan is a polarizing figure.

Romney is a world class flip-flopper. He needs a running mate who doesn't change his/her stance from day to day, but is not a tea bagger kook who will turn off independent voters. That is a tough line to walk.

At this rate the Democrats are ending it far faster than Ryan or the Republicans. If Obamacare stands it gets defunded. If not, it still gets defunded. But I understand that you aren't being told this.

I see him more as a unifying figure; he is well respected and knowledgeable. He isn't too far to the right which would alienate the center, but his financial approach would appeal to the tea party right.
The controversy in WI has everything to do with Walker and state politics, and nothing to do with Ryan.

I am a moderate and view Ryan as extreme. His plan sucks ass. He wants to further cut taxes that are already at historic lows. He thinks cutting food stamps and giving old people coupons for health care is a good idea. I don't. We need to look at the military. We can't afford this "empire-ism" anymore. He wouldn't get my vote.

Obama hopes and prays Romney chooses Paul Ryan. Make the whole debate about healthcare reform? I don't think so. Romney needs a red-meat social conservative with Tea Party credibility, preferably from the South. I'm going to guess Jim DeMint.

He really is in favor of tax code reform if you'd read his plan instead of relying on Obama to tell you what's in it. Not much different than Simpson-Bowles, et. al.

BTW, Obama was in favor of giving old people coupons for health care, until he somehow suddenly was against it.

Ryan's plan isn't nearly as extreme as what will happen if we don't get our spending in line.

    Link?

And no, Ryan is not in favor of increasing any revenues.
