Why Does Hollywood Always Show Penis And Never Vagina?

I just watched the movie “Hall Pass”. I can’t believe this movie got an R-Rating. At one point in the film they show a HUGE dick. It also appeared to be somewhat chubbed up. This wasn’t shown for a fleeting moment or two. It’s shown up close, in perfect lighting, for a good 15-20 seconds, with the camera repeatedly cutting back to it. It really was amazing to see this in an R-rated movie. Penis has been shown in cinema before, but this was the most graphic I’ve ever seen. Other than perhaps the film Bruno, which also featured a close-up of a penis.

And what about the female nudity in the film? As usual it was limited to just breasts. This seems to be the basic formula in R-Rated comedies. For male nudity it’s extremely graphic shots of penis, sometimes even semi-aroused. For women it’s one or two topless scenes.

Also, last night’s episode of “Shameless” (Title: A Beautiful Mess) featured a perfectly lit, close-up of a penis. It was shockingly graphic. As usual “Shameless” has never shown a vagina.

Only one episode into the new season of “Spartacus” and they have already shown a cock twice. As for vagina, there was of course none. The only female full nude scene, as usual, had the girl wearing a pubic wig to censor the vagina.

This has been going on for a couple of years now. It seems as if you can’t see an R-Rated comedy or prime time cable show without a graphic cock in it. Just some movies and shows off the top of my head:

    Forgetting Sarah Marshall
    Mall Cop
Zack and Miri Make A Porno
    Eastern Promises
    Bruno
    Finding Bliss
    Watchmen
    Borat
    Walk hard
    The Hangover
    Sex and The City
    Jack Ass
    Spartacus
    Shameless
    Boardwalk Empire

All of the above were R-rated films and prime time cable shows that showed penis, and in the case of “Hall Pass” and “Finding Bliss” even a semi-aroused penis. And we're talking close-ups.

Yet, I can’t think of one main stream R-Rated film or prime time cable show that ever clearly showed a vagina, let alone in a close-up like thay now do with penis.. In previous decades there was a logical reason why vagina would never be seen. Women didn’t shave or wax, thus a women’s own pubic hair would cover the vagina.

Since most women now shave or wax, the vagina would be visible if a woman did a nude scene. Thus Hollywood now always has the women wear cover-ups which are called merkens or pubic wigs. It’s fake pubic hair to conceal the vagina if the women’s own hair doesn’t. In either case the only thing Hollywood has ever shown is pubic hair (real or fake), but never actual female genitalia.

So why is there this double standard. It’s somehow OK to show penis and testicles (even sometimes semi aroused) in an R-Rated movie and Prime Time cable shows, but in the rare instance there is a full nude scene involving a woman, they have her wear fake hair patches to conceal the vagina.

I honestly can’t think of one film where a woman is groomed in a modern day style and her vagina is clearly visible, let alone shown in an extended close up like they do with penis. Even the grand daddy of T&A movies, “Showgirls” showed no vagina, and “Basic Instinct” shows virtually nothing compared to the way penis is now shown. The scene I saw last night in Shameless, where a guys dick was shown multiple times, was a thousand time more graphic than anything in Showgirls or Basic Instinct.

For anyone who has seen “Hall Pass” or “Bruno” or “Forgetting Sarah Marshall“, compare the way penis is show in these films to the way the female nudity is shown in “Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay. In “Harold and Kumar” there is a scene where all the girls are nude at a pool party. The camera gets a close up of one girl’s crotch as she answers the door. She’s wearing one of the most fake looking pubic wigs imaginable to hide the vagina. The producers of the film even admitted this, as they were going to get an NC-17 if any vaginal lip was shown. And yet, there is “Hall Pass”, a film that shows an extended close-up of a semi aroused penis in perfect lighting for a good minute and it got an R-Rating, not NC-17.

Just take notice. Once you start paying attention it’s astonishing just how frequently penis is graphically shown, while vagina NEVER is. If you ever see an R-Rated film that is supposed to be graphic, the odds are very good you’ll see very graphic penis, while the female nudity will most likely be limited to breasts or a bizarre looking patch to censor the vagina. Just bizarre.
