then you're blind. sometimes the obvious answer isn't the best answer.

and who would you rather have put in that situation? blow out mariano for the next day? over work him day two of a 162 game season? it was game two dude. i have to believe there's gona be more important games coming up/ down the road, than a tied game on the road/west coast and in the rain...

here's another tidbit you'll find interesting...

"With the game tied, 3-3, in the ninth inning, Torre brought in Proctor -- who flew cross-country on Monday after attending to his ill infant daughter and had not pitched in a game since the previous Tuesday.

Torre explained that because it had started raining in the ninth inning, there was a chance the game would be called. That would have resulted in a doubleheader today, and the manager was saving Jaret Wright for a possible start. That left Proctor as the only available long man."

First of all, it doesn't matter who the batting and pitching coaches are on a veteran team like the Yanks. Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina do not need pitching coaches. Even if the Yanks had gotten Mazzone, what the hell are they gonna learn at age 42 and 37?

The Yanks never had a legitimate chance to hire Mazzone anyway. They pushed hard to get him, but Mazzone went to Baltimore because his good friend Sam Perlozzo is there.

What makes you believe the 2006 Red Sox are better then the 2006 Yankees? Because the red Sox are 6-2 and the Yanks are 4-4? Did you happen to see that its 8 games into the season? Did you, by any chance, see that there's a 154 games left to play? It's a long season. The Yanks were 11-19 at the end of April last year and they still won the East. The Yanks are built to win a lot of games in the regular season. They're offense is gonna beat up on the number 3,4, and 5 starters on most staffs. They'll win a ton of games with their offense alone. But don't forget that Randy and Moose look good so far. Also we got Dotel coming in some time in mid May, so he'll solidify the bullpen behind Mo. And the Yanks always seem to make a good mid season aquisition to help them down the stretch.

what makes me believe the yanks are better then the redsox..well it could be the way we have come back over the last two games..or it could be that the redsox 6-2 record has been achieved over lousy teams..while the yanks have been playing teams picked to make the playoffs ( except the royals) randy looks great so far ( except the home-run issue) moose looks fine..the biggest difference i see is if schilling goes down ( which he will) the redsox are done!! and as for bull-pen problems..we have MO.. and the redsox have foulke ( a fader at best) and pablebon..who has NO big-game experience...i fully expect the yanks to win their 9th straight AL EAST championship:):)

OK, I'll respond to all of this that I can -- there have been some good arguments here, some rather terrible ones as well.

    - I'm fully aware that we're only 8 games in. Current win-loss records have nothing to do with my question.

    - The Yankee lineup will definitly lay a whooping on most teams 3-5 starters. That being said, many teams will lay whoopings on the Yankees 3-5 starters, whomever they wind up being when all is said and done. As such, they'll win a fair amount of these games, they'll also lose a fair amount.

    - Dotel should very definitly provide a bit of insurance to an otherwise shaky Yankee bullpen. That said, Tavarez will be every bit as welcome of an addition to the Red Sox bullpen.

    - Papelbon, quite honestly, has nearly nothing but big game experience, having been called up in mid-August last year and featured prominently as both a starter and a reliever in a heated AL East and wild card race -- he was also the team's best pitcher in their whopping 3 game playoff run.

    - If Schilling -- hell, if Schilling and Beckett fall to injury, the Red Sox have numerous options on the farm who aren't exactly slouches that can fill one of their voids in the rotation and the one in the bullpen that'd be created by Papelbon returning to the rotation -- our next closer is waiting in the wings, and he's neither Foulke nor Papelbon. Should all of those options fail, they're more than properly equipped to fill holes via trade.

    - The Yankees are not. There are no tradeable commodities on the Major League roster, and the farm system has been stripped bare. As such, no one has any clue how they'll be in the running for any big mid-season trades -- they truly have nothing left to offer.

    - The Red Sox have already been bitten by the injury bug and have managed to get around that well enough. I quite honestly fear what a major injury or two would do to the Yankees, who are ill-equipped to handle them.

    - I'm not ruling out the possibility that one of these two teams could wind up with Clemens, though it's highly unlikely that if he returns, it's anywhere but Houston. Nice to see him blowing smoke up both the Boston and New York media's asses, though -- at least he's playing fair.

Uh, that's all for now, gotta head into work. Keep this discussion going, though -- it's nice to exchange in intelligent debate as opposed to the whole "We have 26 championships!" "Oh yeah? Well you choked, so there!" that these conversations almost always deteriorate into.

It's also nice to see that everyone's keeping their pride alive -- the national media hasn't been too kind to the Bombers lately - and by lately, I pretty much mean for the last half-decade or so. For the most part, you guys wear it pretty well, though.

i was at the home opener and there were people actually leaving the stadium when the yanks were down a few runs. of course, it was mostly all of the people with the high priced seats near the field. us faithful in the upper deck and bleachers stuck around to see jeter's beautiful HR. it was awesome. :D

I am soooo jealous of you!! I was watching it from a computer and had to leave to go to formation, and when I got back, I could not believe it!!! Mybabydaddy came through, Again. I could not wait for the next AM to see all of those red sox fans that were giving me shit in formation the day before. Most of them looked at me and said, Don't even start, we know... :D

you post with such a bias, and yet you believe all this shit to be fact. it's really hard getting through one of your posts. taveras vs. dotel? are you kidding me? how is the yankee team ANY different from last year, really? except that we have YOUR leadoff hitter? we wont lose a fair share of "those" games. have fun making the wildcard like you do every year.... the biggest bulshit rule to hit MLB walking. that's the ONLY way you guys have a chance at making the playoffs nowadays and you know it.

all i know is it is now the bottom of the 4th inning..the yanks are winning 4-0 and randy has struck out 5 and given up 1 hit...sounds like the unit is gonna be better then last year..when he beat the redsox everytime he pitched against them:):)
