Just wait until Damon runs into a wall, or better yet into another player. And man he has a real rocket of an arm doesn't he?

    ;)

Coco's actually doing quite well - he got off to a great start, suffered a rather minor injury that he'll be returning from in about a week, his replacements have actually been just about as productive as any if not all centerfielders in baseball in his brief absence (that's no lie -- look it up if you must), and the Red Sox managed to lock him up through the next 5 seasons for slightly more than 20 million dollars, a truly phenomenal deal.

All things considered, no one's really shedding over tears over Damon's departure, as there's truly no notable dropoff between Damon and Crisp right now, and Crisp has yet to hit his prime.

i fucking hate damon, and per today's game, he and jeter have good communication out there, so that won't happen again.

and his noodle arm is like a cannon compared to bernie's old rickity shoulders... just sayin'.

    1. The Yankees 3-5 starters are not nearly as bad as most teams 3-5 starters. Wang is a good pitcher. He throws 92 mph sinkers. He's got good stuff. Chacon ain't great. But he's shown that he can pitch under enormous pressure. And Pavano or Wright will round out the bottom of the rotation, and both are pretty decent number 5 starters. No team can keep up with the Yankee offense anyway, once they get going.

2.Tavarez is no good. And as a baseball fan you should know that. He's a certified nut and can't pitch in big spots.

3.Papelbon has nothing but big game experience? I must have missed that. Wake me up when he pitches big innings in the post season.

4.Before you talk about the Yankee farm system, do alittle research. The Yanks have Philip Hughes and Eric Duncan. Duncan is a decent prospect. Hughes, however, is projected to be an ace. I'd hate to see the Yanks get rid of another promising young player, but if they're desperate, they'll pull the trigger on Hughes. They also have Cano. A good hitting, cheap 2nd baseman.

5.The Yanks have shown in the past 2 years, with all the injuries to the starting rotation, that they are resilent. Mike Mussina has missed significant time on the D.L 2 years in row. Pavano went down early last year. So did Wright. Yet the Yanks still end up winning enough games to win the East.

    Thank You.

thanks for that. you can go blow each other with this bullshit in the faggot sox thread then. coco crisp sucks, that's why he was an easy sign, prime or no prime.

you're easily the most dillusional sports poster on this sight. you belong on the espn message boards with this lame load you're trying to peddle, you fucking huckster.

are you aware of the "quote" button you should be pressing when you reply, shithead?

I wouldn't consider trading one of the top prospects in baseball, a quality reliever and a highly regarding catching prospect and eating an unwanted Cleveland contract to obtain a guy an "easy sign" whatsoever.

There's quite honestly nothing in Coco Crisp's history to indicate that he "sucks" whatsoever -- in a far more pitcher-friendly ballpark, all of his major offensive statistics have increased annually, some quite substantially. He's also a notably better defender and baserunner than Damon already.

2006 Prospectus projections, done assuming Damon's home games would be at Fenway and Crisp's would be at the Jake (these have actually shifted in Crisp's favor since both moves were made, though Damon's run total jumped notably):

Damon - .290-13-69, 93 R, 15 SB, defensive liability (arm/shoulder), 63% chance of decline -- "Damon's drastic 2005 dropoff has complicated any potential long-term offers, from the Red Sox or, presumably, elsewhere. A left shoulder injury which is likely to have a lingering effect for the rest of his career sapped most of his power and was clearly the main recent for his most recent ineffective September. He's said to be looking for a 4 or 5 year deal on the back of his productive run in Boston, but the obvious onset of his decline makes anything longer than a 2 year deal for the money Damon is likely to command seem hopeful at best. Mayor Menino may go shagadelic should Damon be retained for the next 2 seasons, but will be clean shaven for the 3rd through the 4th (or 5th). The Red Sox will actively persue other options should another team overpay for Damon's services, a distinct possibility."

Crisp: .295-15-76, 94 R, 16 SB, slightly above average defensive player, 53% chance of improvement. -- "one could argue that Crisp was rushed to the majors after being acquired from the Cardinals in the Chuck Finley deal, resulting in many overlooking his obvious potential in favor of numbers that, frankly, should not yet have existed at the Major League level. Crisp has now clearly caught up with the league with his peak years still ahead of him. A career .299 hitter in the minors, Crisp has hit exactly that in the majors over the past 2 seasons. In 2005, his slugging percentage also jumped dramatically, largely via doubles (he tied teammate Travis Hafner for fifth in the AL) and continued to diplay a marked improvement on the basepaths, something the Tribe figure to use to their advantage more and more over the coming years. While the Indians would like you to believe that he appeared to be better suited playing left field, the fact is Grady Sizemore is the only thing keeping him there -- while he's the second best defensive center fielder on his team, he happens to be playing for one of very few teams in baseball where that'd be true."

This is one of literally countless pre-season publications which projected Cleveland Indian Coco Crisp ahead of Boston Red Sock Johnny Damon, and this was well before any indication that either of the two would be moving.
